From Mirror...

Roy Hodgson will be appointed Liverpool boss this week once he has finalised a guaranteed transfer kitty.

Liverpool are prepared to meet Fulham’s compensation demands to name Hodgson, 62, as Rafa Benitez’s successor.

But the former Inter Milan and Switzerland manager wants a pledge of transfer funds before accepting the post.

Hodgson knows Liverpool’s squad badly needs rebuilding after a desperately disappointing campaign.

But he is worried that the cash-strapped club, who are around £400million in debt, may not be able to back him sufficiently in the transfer market. Liverpoool’s US owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have both admitted they are looking to sell the Premier League giants.

Liverpool also explored the possibility of recruiting Frank Rijkaard from Galatasaray but the Dutchman earns £6m a year and has a £2m buy-out clause.

Former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson is favourite to replace Hodgson at Craven Cottage.

Or could it be media bull as the mirror knows now England are out that capello might be out and Hodgson in, so they are trying to back track by using this as anexcuse.

I would imagine that would be spoke about at any club when a new man is being appointed. Not sure what he will be expecting though. He'd probably get more if he stayed at Fulham!

Whoever the new manager is, if he gets to the 1st September and has broke even in pounds with his transfer dealings then i think that is all he can ask for (in the current situation)

Bearing in mind a few will probably go that should leave him with a fair wedge

Don't know why people still think we have a debt of £400 million, when it is £235million.

Glad to see that Roy is getting clearance about transfer kitty before he signs and is being sensible. But we all know that whatever the lying, cheating, robbing texan w4nker and his little weasel, Penfold look-a-like, scared rotten sh!t say is always false promises

Totally agree mate - even though I hate H & G the debt is £235m

This actually sounds like a media get out to me.

They've all been saying for weeks that he's got the job and that he'll be announced in the next 48 hours. 2 weeks later and still no announcement. I think the truth is that the media have as much clue as the rest of us who the new boss is gonna be, and when the job is given to some one else, they can claim that it was because of the transfer budget.

That way, they don't look as though they've been making it all up.
