Even though I think our squad is still too lean, with some luck I think we could just sneak in with the title this time around. The starting 11 and performance against Arsenal will be the yardstick I think.

It will be very difficult. We have won 8 of our first 10 games. Drew 2 and conceded 4 goals. We are joint top with city being 8 goals ahead on goals difference. Their best player has been out injured for a lot of it and they are rolling teams over with ease. That's what we are up against.

I think city are going to clean up in the next 10 years at least. Has anybody been reading the FFP stuff about city and PSG today. City pumped 2.7b into their club and avoided penalties due to bribery and threats. They bribed french leader Nicolas Sarkozy. They told UFEA officials that they would hire 40 of the best lawyers in the world to sue them. UFEA are in fear of clubs like PSG and City as they have the money to bring them down.

Platini helped PSG to avoid fines and they pumped 1.8b into the club. In 2016 city had a deal in place to take Messi to city for 750m. Barca nearly bankrupted themselves to keep him. This is what the likes of PSG and City are doing to world football. Clubs that have offered very little to top tier football are now running it due to oil money. We might get lucky and win the league, but you cannot compete against that.

If we are to win it this year we need some more luck and our top players to stay healthy and fit. I think we have had some things go our way so far...the Sturridge worldy v Chelsea, Mahrez penalty miss v City, all towards the end of those games.
Man City were on another continent last year to everybody else and I think to topple them it's going to take them making mistakes and teams to have a go at them. Their squad is deep but whilst De Bruyne is out and if they also had the misfortune to lose the likes of David Silva then I could see them dropping points.

Anything is possible but unlikely. City has the advantage currently having a better goal difference and we have already played them at home. They haven't played Chelsea yet but have beaten Arse, so we need to keep pace with them and for instance have to beat Arse to have a chance

I think City will be in the 100 points area when the season finishes. Can we keep up with that? I doubt it. What happens next window? Will they add more to their squad or will Liverpool? I doubt we can win the title but i hope so.

From when 3 points for winning a game was introduced back in the 1981-82 season, usually 80 points would win you the league.

We managed that at 5 times (81-82, 82-83, 83-84, 85-86 and 87-88. We also won our last league title on 79 points in 89-90.

From then we have only gotten 80 points or more 4 times (01-02, 05-06, 08-09 and 13-14).

Since the 11-12 season the winning tally has been 89, 89, 86, 87, 81 (Leicester), 93 and 100 points. The odd season there is the one where Leicester managed to make the impossible. All the big guns failed that season, which made it possible for them to win.

So all in all: To be able to get a win these days - what will it take? 100 points? Probably not. But +90 points? Probably! Can we reach that level?

10 games in we have 26 points to our tally. Going on that return we will finish on 98.8 points.

Of course it's still early days, and the winner might only reach 81 points as Leicester did. But as 3 teams have 26, 26 and 24 points respectively - without a loss - which is a new record in PL - then this looks to be a tough season coming up!

We are in it, but we need to get going and probably get even better. As our front 3 seem to have just recently found their feet then it's not impossible. But tough!

Cautiously optimistic is what I would call myself atm!

Good post Paul, it won't be easy, and City isn't the only hurdle to clear, there's a resurgent Arsenal to negotiate today, and there's Chelsea too looking better under a new manager. I believe it's possible for us to win it, but only without silly slip ups against the weaker sides. I think if we're lucky with injuries and the odd rub of the green, we can compete and possibly nick it. First things first let's win today and keep the pressure on the other contenders.
