Has Dunk finally and irrevocably killed off the regular and much loved Match Thread? Sixties Red used to put it up every game, until Dunk for some peculiar, perverted and unknowable reason started locking it!!?? Why? To what avail? Is the forum not the poorer for the want of it? I for one would like to see its return. Am I the only one? What do the rest of you guys think?

+1 for the match thread. Not sure why it mattered who started it but it ultimately got 60’s gone.

I used to go on a site where the match thread was just started by anyone but if we didn't win then someone else had to have a go. If we won the same person was allowed to start it each time. Wasn't an official rule but everyone allowed the winner stays on until they lost type of thing. Worked quite well. Also some people didn't want the tag of starting one and being an unlucky charm so there were no arguments.

If there's a build up thread it's closed with a pointer to the actual match thread when the team is announced. Anyone can start a match thread when the team is announced: example Home Team v Away Team - CONFIRMED TEAM & MATCH THREAD The post the confirmed starting team and subs

Putting up a " CONFIRMED TEAM & MATCH THREAD" is something you started while at the same time locking the existing match thread. That was a new departure. Putting up a confirmed team and match thread literally hours before the game leaves no time to discuss potential team selection, tactics, and lineups, which was always an interesting and active topic of discussion for a couple of days pre the game. IMO that move was a mistake that has impoverished the forum. I very much doubt that was your intention, but sometimes our best intentions can have unforeseen concequences, and I feel that has happened in this case.

I agree, having a match thread a few days before the game to discuss possible lineups/tactics etc was much better, we can then continue discussing during/after the game in 1 thread.

Yeah the idea of putting up the 'confirmed team & match thread' as soon as it is available is a good idea, and Dunk is best placed to do that, but there's no need or benefit to locking the 'match thread'. Both together is the ideal IMO.

But then who’s responsible for the Klopp out thread if we lose or draw?

Both together is the ideal IMO. There is because the title of the first thread and the posts are usually about predictions and proposed starting line ups. We need a thread with the confirmed team to prevent confusion

It's the same thing and there's nothing stopping anyone creating one at any time. When the confirmed team thread goes up, it's basically clicking on one link to get to the actual match business. The first thread is speculative (predictions) and you have to wade through pages to get to the confirmed team hence the change to a new thread specifically for the match.
