Gomez is going to be a very good CB. There are not many his age playing this position. He has the advantage of playing with VVD in front of a decent keeper. With a defensive midfielder in front of him he should be well protected whilst he gains experience.

I think we will play many games so letting him go will be disastrous. Klavan is a solid experienced cb, he has no speed of course but he is very good, he may of had a couple games where he was shaky against speedy players but his quality no matter how low it is we will need bodies so keeping him is a must for me, we can sign a cb in January until then he is vital to this squad imo.

I don't think he is a very good CB.

I think that's abit harsh on Klavan on his performances at the end of last season, Klopp kept bringing him on for the last 15 - 20 minutes and switching tactics to a back 3 to 'shore up at the back', it had the opposite affect as the change of system created instability and spurred on the opposition as we now had a 'wobble', so I don't think Klavan was the issue, it was more the change of tactics/formation.

If Fabinho is good enough to cover CB, it makes sense to let Klavan leave, he will get regular football in Italy and has done a decent job for us, but now needs replacing, good look to him, I hope Nat Phillips gets games, as he looked good pre-season.

If he cannot play Klopp's tactics, it means he should be shipped out.

It wasn't just him though.

The whole team wobbled after we changed tactics. And the opposition felt they suddenly got a chance which spurred them on too.

Well, he was being brought in to have one additional defensive player to stabilise the back line but made mistakes. Every time he was being called in I was saying to myself, now we concede, and this is what was happening.

Hopefully fsg and klop have realised that too many free signings and cheap signings weaken the team.More often as in life..you get what you pay for.

The whole defense/team were making mistakes when they switched to a back 3, this was caused by Klopp switching tactics and the team not coping well, it was not Klavan causing the problem, it could have been VvD coming on rather than Klavan, and it would have been the same impact as the formation changed and made us look vulnerable, which then spurred on the opposition.

You can't judge signings like that, look at Milner, he was a free and was a great signing.

Klopp came in and had to bring in quite a few signings quickly to change the team, so players like Matip & Klavan were brought in, FSG also were not heavily investing, they wanted to see Klopp and how he performed, I think now we will be making less signings as we have more strength, more targeted and better quality signings.

Total BS, seriously. So VVD and Klavan are the same? Definitely not as VVD is much more skilful and calmer than Klavan, thus he can cope better under pressure. It's not Klopp who decided to change tactics but the opponent who went all in to score and put us under immense pressure, this is why we needed an additional defender, but somebody who can defend under pressure, which Klavan is not.

Of course Klopp changed the tactics, he brought on an extra CB and went to 3 at the back in those games to try and make us defensively stronger, which never seemed to work and gave the opposition even more encouragement.

Of course VvD is much better than Klavan, the point is switching tactics late in the game to try and hold on would cause problems whatever the quality of player you brought on at that stage, so it wasn't Klavan causing the problems when he came on, it was the tactical change.
