My buddy told me we have not conceded a goal at home in the league since VvD joined. How true is that?!

Dejan Lovren is 'ready and fit' to start contributing to Liverpool's quest for success in the coming season.

The centre-back returned to Melwood on Monday morning to begin pre-season training following the conclusion of his post-World Cup holiday.

Lovren helped Croatia reach the final of the tournament in Russia, of course, just months after playing in the Champions League showpiece with the Reds.

And while the No.6 admitted he needed the benefits of a break from the game in the past few weeks, he is already raring to go again.

“I could even play half an hour now!” he told LFCTV during the build-up to Tuesday night’s friendly with Torino at Anfield.

“But let’s go step by step. Let’s do the preparation and we will see what will happen on Sunday.

“After the Champions League final, it was hard for me mentally to accept the defeat. Then I came to the national side and straight to the World Cup; it was quite difficult for me.

“I got a break of three weeks and I’m now ready and fit again, and full of desire to win many games here and hopefully we can win a couple of trophies.”

Did he after that interview suddenly remember that he was injured and actually couldn't play?

Very strange indeed!

He's fit to play half an hour now. That's not the same as not being fit at all. He's training again. I don't see how this is a stick to beat him with.

You’re right. Should be since Mar 2018. That’s 6 home matches in the premier league without conceding.

Where does it say that he didn't report it? Obviously we aren't happy. Why would we be happy that our player is injured? That doesn't mean he hid anything from anyone or broke any rules. All it says was that he's injured and we're not happy. Nothing we didn't already know.

He played through the pain, as Klopp said he did most of the season with us. Since when is that against any club's rules? It was one of the biggest moments in his career. Of course he played. There is no rule that I know of against getting injured on international duty or playing through injury. Hell, Pele's Brazil career was built on the tournament he played through a knee injury!

I'm just interpreting the published article, as we all are, the key point for me is:

“I'll reassess things after seeing the doctor in Netherlands. I have to deal with that for now and believe it will be okay.

“I hoped it would pass during my holiday, but it didn't. As I went for a swim, it hurt. I couldn't even rest normally.”

If Lovren had some sort of muscle injury in his stomach from the WC, I'm sure Liverpool wouldn't have just sent him on his holidays, they would have sent him to a doctor for assessment/treatment and then physio/recoup work. The wording makes it look like he went on holiday knowing he had an injury from the WC, then came back and reported to the club/doctor.

Players are allowed to go on holiday even if they got injured.

Lovern was with the Croatia team and he had been treated by the Croatia team physio and doctor for sure.

And Klopp obviously knew he is not fit as Lovern might already experience these issues last season. If the issues were already treated by the doctors in Croatia team and it is not a new issue, there are no points to ask Lovern to come back to report and treat again by the club doctors.

And for muscle injury, there are no much things the doctors could do. Normally the doctors will just ask you to have some rest and let it recovers.

"However, Klopp is anticipating Lovren will be back in training shortly, telling his post-match press conference following the Reds’ win over West Ham United: “He is not fit. Let me say it like this, last year he already had a few problems with that but he could obviously play - and played really good."
"“Now in the World Cup, [playing] three times [for] 120 minutes it got a bit worse, but I am pretty sure it will settle in the next one, two or three weeks. In that time he can probably for sure train already, but not the full programme, so that will then take time."

Looks like Klavan is being shipped out. I don't fancy him but we will end up having VVD, Lovren, Matip and Gomez for 2 places. That should be enough in theory but Matip has been getting injured quite often and now we learn that Lovren was also having problems last season. So it is a big risk.

It's been our achilles heal for so long its infuraiting. Matip is ok but is weak and not aggressive. Klavan is ok but is slow. Gomez is ok in tackling but cant play football.
Lovern is ok, but isn't very bright.

If as suggested by Klopp Lovern has this injury as a long term thing including in last season, then we're looking at something that is long term, and even if he can play, he won't be at full strength. How we can allow Any of our senior backup central defenders to leave in this situation is amazing and irresponsible, not to mention taking an unnessary risk.

Also why didn't we sign a central defender if we knew Lovern was carrying a longterm injury? And now apparently planning to sell off a senior backup central defender...Irresponsible is too weak a term for this situation.
