Boris is correct they do look like letter boxes ? The burka is being banned all over the wonderful EU (and with good reason). Boris is a politician who is not afraid to speak out or would you prefer homogenous politically correct clones ? I would rather have someone who made the odd gaffe than a bland robot which is what most of our politicians are.

He is far from a complete idiot don't be fooled by his persona. Probably one of the best London mayors ever compare to Khan where London is increasingly a no go area. I agree he says and does stupid things at times. However if you think he is a political dummy think again he played may perfect over the chequers spat Johnson is now clear favourite to be Tory leader.

There’s a difference between being stupid and an idiot and he is most definitely an idiot. And if he is clear favourite to be the leader of the Conservative party then that’s just handed the keys of no. 10 to red Jezza. The torries would be commuting political suicide to put him in charge.

Tory MPs asking him to apologise. He did say the obvious though, wearing Burkas is a security problem, what do they do when they have to pass border police or go to a bank or even have to prove their identity like a bus pass? This should be banned. It's not even in the Koran, I think, they only need to hide their hair, not their face.

Is there anyone on this forum that thinks women wearing the Burka is a good thing ? especially as almost all are intimated into it. The rules dont apply to muslim men I notice

I posted this because Corbyn has been slaughtered by the right wing press over anti-semitism yet the openly racist Johnson is allowed to say what he likes.

I’m not sure if you read or watch the news but there’s widespread condemnation of what he said so not sure how he’s getting away with it? Like I said earlier, Corbyn gets flak as he’s the leader of the party and is beyond week in his condemning antisemitism in his party. Most of those complaining about him are from his own party too.

For me the burka is demeaning to women. In this day and age of trying to get sexual equality this is a massive slap in the face to that. I know anyone who wears them will say it’s by choice but what would happen if they chose not to? They are also a massive security risk as anyone could be under the hood. Wasn’t it reported that Bin Laden used to wear one to move around undetected?

Granted Johnson is taking some flack on this one but he has horrendous previous form.

Bank robbers wear motor cycle helmets to rob banks, should we ban them?
House thieves wear hoodies when breaking and entering should we ban them?

Plenty of Muslim women don't wear niqabs, surely they have made a choice not to wear them.

Because we don't like something doesn't mean it is wrong.

Some don’t wear them as it’s not part of their Islamic tradition. I have no idea what separates one from the other and why some do wear them and some don’t.

For me it’s a security thing as much as anything. Anyone can wear one and hide and they know they’ll not be bothered. But you’re on iffy ground if you start banning them as it’s a religious thing and you have to apply the same rules to all and not just some Muslims.
