I've been disappointed with Matip's performances. I don't think he's at Lovren's level.

But then Lovren's level of performances vary quite a lot from shockingly poor against Spurs to other games where he has been superb and showed how aggressive and dominant he can be.

Both make too many mistakes I think we can all agree on that. And I think most would say Lovren, when he is on his game, is a higher quality defender.

He's a good defender. He's not the most popular and he makes mistakes but we need players like him competing for places in the team.

I think there is a reason why our centre back pairing is Van Dijk plus one other and that is because no centre back in our squad has excelled this season, or in fact any season for the last few years.

We'd be better playing with 10 men than having that liability of a tosser playing for us.

Matip has been injury prone since we got him, I believe in Germany he was also out injured allot, I guess that's why we managed to pick him up as a free transfer without any rival clubs outbidding us, he's a decent CB when fit, but we need someone more reliable.

I expect he will remain in the group of 3 or 4 CB including Gomez, none of our CB have showed anything to show they should be a first team starter alongside VvD, this is Lovren's chance, but how many times have we said this before? lets hope he puts in a storming performance tomorrow.
