I see spangles is posting Liverpool are finished small club etc. This provokes ire among the informal group.

However call me deluded but I feel sometimes myself and the few posters who still cling to Liverpool are a top club should have a top stadium a top side that wins major honours are swatted aside. We can't have a top stadium we can't have a top side FSG are the best we can get. Ok you maybe right maybe this is as good as it gets.

But I just can't understand it. I grew up in the shankly years when there was a belief we would be the greatest in Europe and so it proved. I remember half time istanbul I swear to you I knew we would win I could feel it.

Football is about hope yes you have to be realistic (to a point) but I am sensing a dangerous pragmatism on this forum maybe years of disappointment have resulted in this culture maybe it's self protection I don't know.

I want anfield to be one of the best stadiums in the UK i want LFC to be winning titles regularly I want us to win the champions league. Yes I might be deluded but without hope what is the point ?

Shankly would not have accepted pragmatism I feel sure of that

A lot of Liverpool fans today support the club through the legend and success of the 70's and 80,s but I will tell you this none of that would have been achieved without the ambition and belief of the 60,s you can scoff all you like that's a fact

Less looking at the balance sheet more looking at the table less accepting more ambition less what we can't do more what we could do. I am pragmatic as well but something seems missing to me. Take FSG yes there are worse owners but they clearly don't have the means to take the club to another level. I find that hard to accept others seem fine with it I don't understand it. I am not saying we go on a mad spending spree but it would be great to see some ambition rather than simply accepting our current status

Yes Stanley, hope dies when the club management betrays the fans and displays a lack of ambition. We should start to announce our ambition by refusing to sell our best players, especially if they've only six months ago signed a five year contract, and most especially if we're in the midst of two critically important campaigns. We can never win anything if we keep selling off our best players. Next summer who will we sell? I suppose it'll all depend on who comes in for whom and how much they're prepared to pay. The hallmark of a club with no ambition is a club that habitually sells off its best players. Hope dies when ambition fly's.

Who on here is fine with FSG? I hear this and hear people being called FSG apologists but I couldn't name one poster who likes them and wouldn't be glad to see the back of them.

And I would argue that you do want us to go on a spending spree. What else does ambition look like to you if you don't?

Klopp seems to be building something, slowly. He has ambition for this club but has to work to a budget unlike City, Utd or Chelsea and for me is doing a good job and I think will continue to despite the loss of Coutinho. But unless you have the funds of City or Utd or Chelsea you will always come up short.

We have the right manager and general set up, albeit poor owners with a lack of care or passion of the football club. Just take our net spend over the years for instance, we are amongst the likes of Swansea, whilst Man city and Man Utd dominate. Until FSG sell, this will only continue; the best we can hope for in these dire times is a league or fa cup. Do you really think we have the quantity and quality to challenge for the league or UCL. We have literally let our best player leave mid season with seemingly no back up plan. Alongside that we aren't a staple in the top 4 and we have got a favourable draw in the UCL, but yet again the $$ show and John Henry quickly grabs at it!

I find it hard to put it into words there is just something missing. I don't want to go on a mad spending spree but I would like to see some statement of intent the club simply seems to be broadly maintaining where we are albeit there are some good signs lately Klopp is building something. But that us in despite of not because of. But the worrying thing is not the club but fellow Liverpool supporters who seem to have drifted into mild acceptance. 5 years from now where do you see the club ? Pretty sure if we ended up right where we are now there would be acceptance of it. The dawn of the pragmatists is with us.

If you look at City as an example, you would say they have ambition wouldn't you? But the 'ambition' they have shown has only been possible because they have a whole countries money behind them and were gifted a stadium.

If we had their owners and we had gone on a spending spree you would think we have ambition I suspect?

So the something missing is a bucket load of money.
