He's spot on

Feeder clubs or a draft system would be brilliant for everyone.

Players like Harry Wilson who are banging them in for the reserves etc deserve a chance but you can't play them because the pressure on the manager is so immense. Every game is a must win game regardless of the opposition.

No manager is given a chance to blood youngsters and it takes an injury crisis to get some playing time (Trent AA. Rashford, Pickford)

A club like Liverpool should be helping out struggling, smaller teams like Crewe and Tranmere or Everton by sending players and improving the facilities in exchange for playing the youngsters.

Haha like it.

There has to be something done to help these youngsters through but I'm not sure sending them down the leagues is the right thing.

I'd be all for capping the amount of foreign players in any team and putting a rule in that you must have a certain number of youmgsters in your team. Not sure how that would ever work or if anyone would be brave enough to try it but for me it'll be the only way any of the younger players will see any decent game time.

If we send them to Crewe tranmere etc then hopefully they move up the leagues if the club gets high enough then we can start a new affiliation with a different lower league side. It's just an idea but it's impossible to limit foreigners as that would cause someone to get uptight about it and say it's a refusal to work because of nationality bla bla bla

Yeah, we've not been allowed to 'restrict the work' of EU footballers but you never know after Brexit? Might be a good time to try and kick it off. I doubt it'll ever happen though but maybe there should be a rule where you have to include a certain number of your youngsters in the match day squad?

Agree with that and would also add that club should be allowed to call back their players whenever required in the season, this is why I think they should play in the lower divisions rather than weaker teams in the EPL

There doesn't need to be a cap on foreign players, but the minimum for homegrown players should be raised, and the definition of homegrown should be narrowed. Players that aren't eligible to play for England shouldn't count as home grown.

Those are the kinds of measures Germany took to improve their youth set up and encourage using young players, and that policy has paid them dividends.

I don't understand why not. He was a part of the successful England team that won the under-20s. Might as well give youngsters a chance if club managers are complaining about their first team players getting injured.

I'm not sure this is necessary as if a player is good enough he'll be selected by his club manager, as the pressure to win works both ways, any manager worth his wages will always play his best side, with an occasional rest thrown in. The development of young and youth players is a different issue and obviously needs to be addressed, as the academy system isn't producing them in anything like the required numbers. That's something that needs attention IMO.

Perhaps the re-introduction of a "reserves" league is a good option?
