I think he would have been sold if we got Keita for this season and he was not playing well enough last year for a big wage increase.

Can, 23, has now racked up more than 130 appearances for Liverpool, scoring ten goals, and he has made a strong start to the new season, particularly impressing with a superb all-round display against Arsenal before the international break.

Read that, if that is the case and he does not sign before January then we should put in a release clause to get him to sign. If he leaves then we can get something back.

Why would we not put a release clause in? Seems like a sensible thing to do as he will sign which it seems we want him to do and we can set the release clause to make sure we get good money if and when he does leave.

Exactly and I would add that the release clause can be activated at least 3 weeks before that the transfer window is closed.

He will want a low release clause I feel as he must want to leave ! But we should put in a one minimum of 35 mil imo

I'd say it is more keeping his options open. He saw what no release clause did to Couthino.

Looks like we've left it a bit late then..he now holds all the cards. I imagine he sees Juve as a more capable club of winning things. We'll probably end up losing him for free.

Emre Can is not a necessity, he can be very wishy washy with his consistency. However in todays market he is a 50m player and it would be foolish to allow him to walk for FREE. Better we reach some sort of compromise.
