And that hunting only resulted in one player for CB? We could easily have bought one better than what we have and still get VVD in January or next summer.

I think Klopp is prepare to wait rather than take what he sees as a lesser player.

That does not mean I agree with him.

The guy spurs signed is pretty highly rated yet we showed no interest ?

That Sanchez from Ajax?
I saw him play last season. He is highly rated simply because of his physical tools. However, he is way too raw to be a decent CB in EPL. If you have watched him more games, you would know how often he was caught in out of position and forced making unnecessary tackles.

To me, Klopp is not just a manager and he is also a coach and motivator.
He mentioned a few times during this transfer windows, he would only go for the best players. If he cant get what he wants, he prefers to train up the ones that he already have.
He put high emphasis on training and he (me as well) definitely sees some potential in gomes. That's why we dont go around and buying some second tier centre back. Don't forget this summer the transfer window went crazy and even a second tier centre back may cost you over 30M which is a lot in our budget.

I think that is why we didnt go for another centre back. Also, this Klopp approach helps him to motivate the youngsters to train harder to get into the first team.

P.S. See our CL squad and you would know that our squad is actually quite full and we lack of self-trained players to fill up the squad. Therefore, we only go for those really good players now and we also need to train up the players of our own. To train up a defenders is always easier than an attackers. That's why we are more willing to pay for an attackers than a defender.

I watched Gomez playing CB in the preseason and he was poor. That said he was poor as full back as well but played very well against Arsenal. Maybe, just maybe he can do a good job at CB, however, it does look as a big risk. I'd like to be proven wrong as I think the money spent in the Ox should have gone in a CB.

Actually Gomes is the 4th option CB. I think he qualified as a 4th option and he will keep improving as he is young and just recovered from his badly injuries.

For me, Matip is world class and he is the most reliable center back for us since Sami Hyppia.

Lovern is not world class but he is actually a good defender too. He is strong and not slow, occassionally may have some errors though.

Matip and Lovern built up a decent partnership and actually their defensive records is not bad when they started together.

Klavan is a decent 3rd option CB as well.

I think if we can get our defence in set pieces get sorted, our defence is actually not as bad as people may think.

The only conclusion to the transfer charade is that the scouts and recruitment staff are useless and Jurgen has learned the hard way.

What I can't understand is that he should have figured this out from the get-go. Surely when you plan to bring a famous club back to the top (sic) a major part of the plan is to instigate a wizz-bang recruitment programme! Surely.

I'm dreading the moment Matip gets injured or banned for a few games.

Klavan and Lovren as a CB pairing means we're fcuked against a good opponent.

Not signing a new CB was a major mistake, and I hope we won't pay the price for that.

I think a lot of posters here whose daily jobs do not have anything to do with football could come up with a few names and it would be difficult to believe that our scouts could not come up with some options. I still think that Klopp doesn't think that the problem is related to the personnel he has but rather the system because both Lovren and Sakho were quite decent before they joined. Also, it looks to me that Klopp doesn't like specialists, this is why we have so many midfielders playing out of position such as Firmino (CF), Milner (LB), Matip (CB), even TAA used to be a midfielder. I won't be surprised to see Can in a CB position in the season.
