Reduces the size of the owner's losses. Makes it, at least, feasible to run the club sustainably but, if Arsenal's experience is anything to go by, such financial prudence as to build a team within the limits of one's income will not allow 'indefinite success' and that's with 60,000 wealthy Londoners sponsoring the show. With Man City throwing £100M at single players only those willing to sustain heavy financial losses can really hope to compete. A new stadium won't sort out LFC's problems altogether. Only very tight regulation re-expendidture could bring the situation under more favourable control and I doubt whether any amount of auditting can properly reign in the ambitions of a wealthy owner set on buying success.

I resent the suggestion that I am a faraway fan funning down locals.
I have been a Centeenary stand holder for 12yrs, who attended every home game and many away. My son uses my ticket whilst I am over here.
I would never belittle fans, especially LFC fans, they are the heart of the game and give blood for their team. My point is that we matter to each other but the game is now a business, and as we know on merseyside business has no loyalty.
So no offense meant just trying to be realistic.

but then i agree with you flames that the standard of the game has improved by miles. footballers today can do things with the ball that no one could 20-30 years ago.

when it comes to the new owners i will say what i've said in other threads. we need to bring in a owner who can clear of the debt, build the stadium and give us the opportunity to sign our main targets for once...we don't have the luxury to choose this one or that one, we won't find a genuine lfc supporter who have the funds to take the club forward. we just have to get the yanks out of the club asap.

i disagree.players can do things with the ball that they couldn't 20 - 30 years ago because the balls are so light now.
all the great players are from years gone by,i dont think there is anything to compare with the likes of pele, cryff ect.a big problem we have nowadays especially in england is that it is big strong players who get taken on by clubs and not smaller more skillfull ones.the game has got faster but has suffered for it.the Brazil team of 1970 would whip the ass off any international side there is today.

I agree about the brazil side of the 1970's and as for the great players of today Rooney, Ronaldo Messi don't make me laugh compared to Pele, Cruff, Maradona they are third rate nowhere near the standard of the great players of that era.

i agree some players at that time where absolutely great. the only ones nowadays to be compared to them are messi, ronaldinho and my favorite zidane.

but generally i think there are more good players nowadays than it was in those days. a decisive factor could be that there are more active players these days that can focus 100 % on football compared with 30 years ago.

Players dont have the time on the ball compared to when those guys were playing. You will never have the freedom to allow it any more and so you are not going to get those that stood out SO far above others. A shame but its so much more about fitness these days, which again highlights the gulf between fit and relatively unfit players of the 70's and thereabouts. The ground is far more level now...which in turn, shows just how good the Rooney's and Messi's are

Half of todays wankers wouldnt last five minutes in the game back in the 80's

Can you imagine the likes of Barnes and Craig Johnston playing today?

If some rich owner does appear, the worst that could happen is that the new stadium gets built which would increase the revenue that the club generates considerably. And that in turn would enable the club to eventually be self sustaining, competitive and, more than likely, profitable.

The owner could then sit back safe in the knowledge that not only does he/she/they own the greatest club in the world, but it is also successful in its own right and profitable (as we were before GiHi turned up.)
