Well Chris, I don't disagree with your point that the owners in any business take responsibility and come in to straighten things out when they go out of kilter as in this case. However I'm sure you'll agree that there's a difference in this case given the way FSG have micro managed the club since they arrived. They have a shareholder and member of their board overseeing the club on virtually a daily basis (Mike Gorden) and you can bet your bottom dollar that no one could as much as fart in LFC that the board isn't aware of. The other thing that puts FSGs finger prints all over this debacle is that it is a continuation of similar signing mishaps over several windows despite different managers, chairmen and staff generally, it's surely reasonable to think they wouldn't all be equally incompetent in exactly the same manner. This is classic FSG being adept at pissing off every club they encounter with their low balling haggling and ineptitude when trying to close a deal.

If Jurgen Klopp has approached Van Dijk unofficially and tapped him up, the blame lies solely with Klopp. As owners of the club, FSG have rightly apologised for a breach of Premier League rules. You need to look at this incident in isolation and see it for what it is, everything I've read points to Klopp being personally involved in the pursuit. Why didn't we just approach Southampton the proper way I don't know! We must be on good terms considering the amount of business between the two clubs. I'm not getting into the way the club has been run since FSG took over because that is a separate issue.

I'm equally annoyed and appeased by the whole affair. It screams of incompetence in our transfer dealings, however, completely agree with previous comments, no defender is worth that kind of money. Mane was £34m and is further ahead of Van Dijk in terms of progress. We'd probably sell him for £50m+ with a replacement lined up, so why should we spend that amount on a player untested at the very top level of the game. I really like VvD, but so many questions are still there over his ability in the Champions League, for example. I think we could buy someone equally capable for £20m less, and that would leave money for signing another player if we so wished.

We could get Michael Keane from Burnley for allot less, he's a very good defender and hasn't been out for 6 months.

This has FSG's webbed, scaly fingers allover it.

Sakho must have arranged that one .....

Every club taps the players they want either through their agents, family friends etc. how do you think wenger, Jose, sir Alex and the rest get their targets private mobile number for that one final call that changes everything for player himself.
This case is different cause some turd leaked the news to the journalist and positioned it as he is in the bag before a fee was agreed. If I was Southampton I would have reported Liverpool as well. We are all aware of the murky shanneigans that go on in large and complex dealings but FFS just have some decency and professional courtesy. It can't be that blatant
Of course my view is purely conjecture and I don't know the exact details. But u am calling it just as carragher has been calling it.

Talking to an agent is not tapping, you are not supposed to talk directly to the player. I have the impression that somebody (probably Klopp or somebody else) tried to convince VVD that he should choose us over City and Chelsea as we didn't want to get involved in a bidding war. Talking only to his agent wouldn't have been enough as agents usually wants more money involved

TBH FSG dropped a ball apologizing, they immediately admitted we'd tapped VVD up when they released that apology! The media had run various stories that Man City was his preferred destination, then Chelsea, then Liverpool all in the space of 2 weeks in early May - http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/foo...il-van-12983723Unless Southampton had Klopp or a representative from Liverpool on video talking to VVD between the end of the season and when they made their report to The FA, then there was no basis for their complaint. Man City and Chelsea could have been construed equally as guilty!

Would you rather us not of apologised and been banned from signing players? Surely not. If VVD had wanted to go to Man City for example, then I believe they would have been the club Southampton reported.
