He is not going to play in the past, will he? He is not leading anything, we are talking about football and you need to be fit to lead unless you want to manage
Just because he hasn't played this season doesn't mean he isn't a leader. As I've said look at his career, his leadership skills are there for all too see, unless your basing his whole career on this season which I don't understand at all. If you are not good enough on the pitch you cannot lead, this is my point. I am not talking about the past but going forward as the poster wants us to sign him in summer for his leadership qualities. Do you want that? If it wasn't for his Chelsea loyalties and connections I'd absolutely love a player of his experience and quality. To be honest I find it mind-boggling that you don't think he can lead, you don't captain Chelsea from such a young age and for so many years without having fantastic leadership qualities. Just because he isn't playing doesn't mean he can't lead, he'll be a massive presence in the dressing room, a fantastic example for young players to look up to from a footballing sense, he has experienced and won everything before and that experience is vital in a Premiership run in.

Do you want that? Chelsea have been playing very well and are top of the league, they have a settled back 5, so that is no reflection on Terry that he isn't playing, there's an argument to say if he played at the weekend with Alonso out, they might have got a better result against Utd. If we had JT in our squad now and was fit, I would put him as our third choice CB ahead of Klavan & Lucas as CB (Lucas could still get games in midfield), his organisation and confidence might have got us a win against Bournemouth when we conceded late on, with 10 mins to go and you need to close a game out, he might make the difference, I'm not saying he's a first choice CB, he's extra cover and experience when you need it.

What I am saying is that if you are not good/fit enough to play, you are not good enough to lead unless you join the coaching staff. You mind can be boggled but he hasn't been playing regularly for a few seasons now and almost didn't play this season, I am not talking about his good years.

Lucas is no CB and we should have replaced Sakho with a top player, not a close to retired if not already retired JT.

This is the first season where he hasn't been first choice. To say he isn't fit to lead just because he isn't playing is also wrong, as I've said previously you've got his winning mentality, presence in the dressing room and also the respect of everyone at the club and in the game for what he's achieved. He's still their club captain you know.

Because Chelsea have found a system with 3 centre backs and Conte has preferred others over John Terry. It doesn't mean he has lost his leadership skills or winning mentality. Anyway, I don't understand your point at all here, look at his career, it's all there in black and white, your argument here is flawed and wrong in my opinion, your judging a 20 year playing career on one season, how is that an accurate reflection on someone?

My point is he is too old to be able to have the same influence in games as he used to have, I am taking about the future not the past 20 years. I am basing it on the season where he turned 36 and he is not supposed to get younger. This is why he cannot get a game at Chelsea not because they are playing 3 at the back. Dont understand what's so hard to understand. He will probably be a free transfer in the summer and as you probably know the defence is our main problem. Let's see what Klopp does.

Luckily I don't think he'd go anywhere north of Watford.
That job interview was going so well until I realized I was fukked up on acid in the middle of a cornfield naked and talking to a scarecrow.

I agree he's not as good a player as he was in previous years, that's natural with age. What I'm saying is you don't lose your leadership skills or winning mentality with age or a spell out of the team. As a senior professional he will be someone who younger members of the squad look up too! I'm not suggesting sign him, with his love for Chelsea it would never work.
