Firstly while I am sure a few fans are reaffirmed with the statements and others exacerbated by the same old comments, its important to understand that for now, most of these words are just that. They aren't categorical, or missions statements, they are ultimately throwaway lines said when approached about subjects by journalists looking for headlines. In truth, I think Anfield has been less about "headlines" and more about reiterating the progress and expectations that have developed these past 18 months.
"We could have done with one or two players in January, when we had injury problems and the Africa Cup, but the transfer window didn't give us any opportunity."
There are opportunities in every window. Whether you choose to accept that there was nobody available to buy or not, its universal that sometimes a chance on a player, or even just the presence of another body, can enhance/worsen the dressing room. The biggest mistake Klopp made this January, was believing that the players at the club were 100% together, facing the same direction, looking to improve as a team. Since early January, the players have been directionless and more selfish in their play. Some might question commitment, but this is nothing new to our club. Every year we have had periods of lethargic performances against teams in the bottom half. The shock, is that we've not picked ourselves up.
"The club have never said to me that a certain figure is too expensive; that has not happened yet and I don't expect it to happen. We all have the same plan, the sporting director, scouting department, owners, myself - we all want to make this club as successful as possible so we will spend money in the summer. Of course we have to improve the squad, that is clear."
This is generally a statement of pressured intent. "I want players. I haven't been spoken to about budgets, so I don't have one. I expect to bring in prime targets." I almost feel like this was modeled as a reassurance to fans. Following up by naming each member of the staff involved in transfers makes the intention clear, because his follow-up is dressed as fact. Pressure is placed equally on all mentioned personnel. There can be no denial. "We need players. We need strengthening. I expect it to happen."
"We will be prepared for the summer window, for sure. We are working on it already - we might need between two and six players."
Minimum 2? If you're looking at the first team right now, as the average fan, you're thinking goalkeeper and centre-half. If you were not aware of Milner's terrific season, you'd think a left back is imperitive but there is doubt thinking we will sign one anyway to potentially free Milner if required. The worry for many is that a keeper might not be on the list, and with the players we've been linked with, we're clearly wanting a striker, a combative midfielder, a winger and a creative attacking midfielder. That should clarify to everyone that a goalkeeper is maybe one position Klopp isn't even considering investing in this year. The alternative, is that we pick up a winger capable of playing inside, and look at a keeper instead. If we take Klopp at face value though, the only position clearly safe is left back. Back in January, he said that Moreno and Milner were enough.
So who might we be looking at in those 7 positions we're likeliest to be picking six from?
Goalkeeper - Ruffier, Hart, Schmeichel, Pickford Centre-Half - Van Dijk, Gimenez, St Juste Left-Back - Rodriguez, Amavi, Durmisi Combative Midfielder - Keita, Dahoud, Obiang Winger - Brandt, Promes, Mahrez Attacking Midfielder - Gotze, Goretzka, Larouci, Amiri Striker - Lacazette, Cornet, Dolberg

The comments say to me we have major problems I hear you we are trying to solve it. That's fine but Liverpool fans have heard this story a thousand times before. At the end if the day it's the same position we are a once big club still trying to be a big club but without big club funding. And that is why this will only be words in a couple years Klopp will be gone and we will have the new messiah saying the same things. Our only hope is FSG clear off and owners with the means come in. It's possible it has happened to other clubs we are still a big name

I think that Klopp has missed an opportunity by not reinforcing in Jan and it will cost us 4th place that will have serious repercutions in the summer transfer window as we will have less funds available and it will be more difficult to attract top players. I cannot believe he didn't bring in a CB and has now had to play Lucac. I hope I am wrong but feel I will be right.

I don't think our brand is worth the premium FSG would like to sell for.

I cannot believe he didn't bring in a CB and has now had to play Lucac. I hope I am wrong but feel I will be right. They're not about hope, they are about elaborating on what I believe Klopp's intentions were in his comments. I do believe he is being open about the clubs responsibilities. I do believe he is being clear about the number of players he's expecting and hoping for. I do believe that Klopp's comments about a lack of players in the market was false, I think that his prime targets weren't available, and that is all. We might miss out on the top four, and it would certainly seem as though January was the defining month of our season. I think players were available in the summer that we should have pursued, never mind the january transfer window. I want players settled and ready to go in january, not being signed in the hope they hit the ground running. It is true that few teams buy in January, though it has been proven statistically that the team that spends the most near the bottom of the table achieves safety, and the team that spends the most at the top of the table, achieves the european place they aimed for. I don't believe Klopp will be gone, and a new messiah saying the same things is on the cards. Klopp is invested in the club, and few clubs would convince him to drop our team for pastures new. I don't think Italy, Germany or France have teams which would prove more attractive than ourselves right now. Beyond the top few in Spain, I just don't see how he would see the appeal to jump ship, and the owners have backed him publicly on enough occasions to know they're not thinking about dismissing him even after a bad run of form. We are a big name, and other clubs have sought investment and profited from it, but I don't think we necessarily need that to achieve success. I think there are a lot of quick gains to be had in having the money to buy anyone, but there are enough examples of teams not needing the most money to achieve success that all the club need to be is competitive with some of the top teams, not all of them. I think there is a gross exaggeration made of transfers and spending that sometimes doesn't need to be talked to death. We need to improve the team, and the squad, and if that costs £20m or £100m, then so be it.

i think there are deeper, institutional problems as well. The ownership, management, coaching staff, playing staff and fans are not on the same wavelength. There is a disconnect. It's ignored when the team produces a good run of form (Rodgers 2013/14, Klopp 2016). When it starts to come to the fore, the owners cleverly sack the manager and install a new one so we start all over again.

They don't know what or where to be looking for players, as the managers want higher class while the owners want prospects, it's a bloody mess, and the evidence is everywhere you look.

Fans are generally divided on what everyone is aiming for.
