Everton boss David Moyes is the latest manager to be linked with the vacant Liverpool hot-seat, according to reports.
Liverpool are planning to raid Merseyside rivals Everton in attempt to lure David Moyes across the city as a shock replacement for Rafael Benitez.
According to the Sunday Express, the highly-regarded Scottish coach now tops the Red's managerial wish-list, with both managing director Christian Purslow and Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish big admirers of the Toffees' chief.
After an under-par showing last season, where Liverpool had early exits from both domestic cups and the Champions League, Bentiez had been under intense pressure to walk away from Anfield as the club looks to re-build this summer.
The Spaniard was dismissed on Thursday and is already being groomed as the new Inter Milan boss, after Jose Mourinho’s switch to Real Madrid.
It's paved the way for Moyes to become the red-hot favourite to cross the Merseyside divide, although after eight years at Goodison Park it's believed he wants to remain loyal to his current employers.
With Liverpool joint-bosses George Gillett and Tom Hicks having paid out a significant compensation package to Benitez, it is also questionable whether they will be willing to do the same to acquire Moyes.
However, according to the News of the World Liverpool are preparing to swoop for Fulham boss Roy Hodgson with a formal approach imminent.
The tabloid understands that the veteran manager is keen to meet the club's top-brass to discuss filling their dug-out vacancy, while Liverpool players are thought to have responded positively to the idea of the Englishman taking over.
Hodgson, who has vast managerial expertise after numerous coaching roles on the continent, saw his stock rise last season after leading the Cottagers to the Europa League final.
It is also understood that rather than a big name appointment, Liverpool are basing any potential appointment around the future happiness of club captain Steven Gerrard and star striker Fernando Torres.
