Destructive players like Mascherano/Makalele do not generally offer much more creatively, so I guess they get a bad press, I think now players have to be more 'all round' like in Klopps system, but the top teams need players like this, to allow their creative/flair players to operate, like Gerard and Alonso looked most effective with Mascherano along side them.
You've pretty much copied my earlier post! Lol

You've pretty much copied my earlier post! Lol We agree then !!! Aren't we all just spouting the same drivel on here anyways? mostly from 2 different camps, like the 'we need more players in the Window/but only the right ones' argument etc.

Wouldn't go as far as your description of them but what I will say is they were certainly better than what we have seen since, don't think they were good enough to win a league tho. I think Alonso was probably the best out of the bunch who went on to greater things and Mascherano too..even though I thought he was a dreadful player, the rest were decent but fizzled out after that season. He was so dreadful that he went to Barca and won everything possible there. I really think you should change your name as you are not wise at all, on the contrary. try and make it easier for you to understand, he played for Liverpool as a midfielder....went to Barcelona for 20 odd million pounds after going on strike.... was found out he couldn't pass...Barca thought Shyte we have spent this money what shall we do...ended up playing him centre half to save face.... simple. I personally thought he was worse than Hamann as in most limited player to play for us pound for pound. So Barca palyed him to save face, what a load of bolloxs, looks like stupidity has no limits.

I think maybe the reason for my thinking as growing watching 70s and 80s Liverpool we never had players who played just one part of there duty, Emlyn and Hansen could do more than just there fundamental job which was defend, players like Souey, Whelan and even McMahon could all do there prime job of putting there foot in and defend aswell as attack and weigh in with goals and ofcorse Rushie up front was our first line of defence aswell as his main job of scoring goals. I admit I was spoilt and probably the reason I will never accept limited players like Hamann and Mascherano as being good.

Deschamps won more trophies than any of the players you've named above, it's not that you were spoilt but you only have basic football knowledge if any.

If only the PL winners qualified for the CL, like the old European Cup with knockout rounds all the way through, winning the PL would be far more important, that's why Top 4 is the main priority for the Top clubs, winning the PL is not as important now for the people running/owning clubs. It devalues the league, like the FA Cup has been devalued because compared to the rewards for CL qualification/PL survival, the FA Cup has no real monetary value.
Well said old son.

Liverpool Fans Every Game Before A Match:
Walk on through the wind Walk on through the rain Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on walk on with hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone
Some Fans Every Game After A Defeat:
Better luck to us next year. Season over.
I'm bewildered by all of this. If you're a fan, you know and believe the truths in the song.
