in todays football a top four position is success as it gets you into the premium competion the CL WHERE all want to get to ! We all want to get to? You sure about that sixties...from where I stand it's only FSG who benefit, Klopp and the players because they get a big fat bonus for qualifying. The rest of us don't have any financial gain, we just look forward to getting bounced out group stages and embarrassed by another Ludogerets or some other no mark team we have never heard of and worse of the lot all at the expense of sacrificing domestic Cup success because of an incompetent manager who does what the owners want instead of us fans. I always enjoy European nights, good atmosphere, you get to see teams/players you don't see that often. When Liverpool are not in the CL, I do not have as much interest in it and rarely watch the games until the later knockout 2 leg games.

i dont want finacial reward i want success for the team i support, and the best success in todays football is win the cl, to do that you have to be in the top four so i want us in the top four minimum and to win the league if possible, but most of all i want us to be competitive in the CL when we do get there which means upping the anty on the class of player we buy so how has playing Champions League benefited Arsenal who have been appearing in it last 18 years or something given they have not won a major trophy since the Invincibles nearly 15 years ago.

What's your point don't play in the top completion ? not at the expense of achieving success no which unfortunately with the owners and manager we have had become the case...see Liverpool v Wolves game as a perfect example.

We were also the Number One ranked team in Europe for a while and I fondly recall absolutely battering Real Madrid 4-0 at Anfield, what a great night that was! That Liverpool team with the spine of Reina, Hyypia, Carragher, Mascherano, Alonso, Gerrard and Torres was as good as I've seen in the Premiership era.

Jeeeeez not this AGAIN?? Arsenal have won 2 leagues, 5 FA cups and 4 Community Shields in the last 18 years when you say they've been in the CL. Not bad I would say for a team that hasn't benefitted from the CL. Add to that the fact that they can attract top players like Ozil, Sanchez and can (usually) keep them happy because they play in the best club football competition in the world. They have also managed to build a new stadium in that time too. So, what part of that would you not like for LFC? Just aiming for top 4 shouldn't be the goal. Aiming for the title should be the goal but getting top 4 is a good consolation.

Such a shame we missed out last year by not winning the UEFA cup - think of all the players we could attract ! if we miss out on the UCL again - that's another step backwards.

Didn't that team with those players you mentioned finish 7th in Benitez last season in charge ? Alonso and Arbeloa both went to Real Madrid and the replacements signed weren't as good. Glen Johnson at RB and Aquilani which was just a disaster. I believe Sami Hyypia left/retired as well if memory serves me right. I can't remember exactly but I think both Gerrard and Torres spent long spells out injured the following season as well. As I said anyway, that team was awesome and it should have won the league. We only lost two games in the 08/09 season but too many draws let us down as we actually beat Man Utd who won the league twice as well, including 4-1 at Old Trafford.

Wouldn't go as far as your description of them but what I will say is they were certainly better than what we have seen since, don't think they were good enough to win a league tho. I think Alonso was probably the best out of the bunch who went on to greater things and Mascherano too..even though I thought he was a dreadful player, the rest were decent but fizzled out after that season.
