Need I remind you, that is purely down to FSG reducing our squad over the years by claiming with no Europe we don't need such a large squad.

Look at Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City they have 2 top class players for each position.

consider us, hell we don't even have a left back, or 1st choice striker.
what makes me laugh about posters clambering for champions league is that even when We played in it we are an embarrassment... Basel and Ludogorets anyone...

With the right manager though we soon worked our way to number 1 in Europe as voted by UEFA rankings, no point gauging it on what Rodgers did,he was out of his depth.

werent we ranked number one under Hicks and Gillette ? Might be wrong, I think Hicks and Gillette definitely provided the funds for players as in Torres and Mascherano

Similar level of investment as FSG tbh, difference was we had a manager who had an eye for a player. Rodgers and the comittee have overseen over £300 million of transfers and we have such an average squad, most of Rafas signings doubled or more in value when we were assset stripped. I think FSGs investment has been fair, choice of players has been a catastrophe.

So say we end up qualifying for the champions league for next season, people have told me this is more important than winning cups and having success so because we will have more money etc, ok...fine let's go with this.
Do people think firstly that FSG will release these extra funds for players more than the normal summer budget set aside or will they use it to pay for our new Tier they have funded out of there own pocket. The other thing is do people think Klopp will use the money and the lure of champions league to buy top tier players when history shows he likes to buy cheaper players and turn them in to top players. If this is the case there's no real need for us to play champions league because it won't really alter anything for us fans, we also need to take into consideration with Liverpool not paying top wages the Liverpool brand alone will not be enough to attract top players and playing in the champions league for one off seasons won't work either as I haven't seen top draw players signing for Leicester City.
I would be interested to hear people's views on Liverpool qualifying for Champions League as I honestly think it would be a bad thing, let's face it, if we were playing this season in it we would be 14th in the League now.

Rafa was also signing players when we were virtually guaranteed top 4/CL, as we were only really up again Man Utd/Arsenal/Chelsea, so was mainly a case of which order they finished, so we had the guaranteed CL funds + the appeal to say to players you will be in the CL.

This is a gradual thing, the squad is better than last year for first team players, I fully expect Klopp to strengthen the squad again in the summer, how many players we buy will depend if we qualify for CL or not, as he will have more money if we qualify and that will attract better players, who will turn us down if no CL.

But I doubt we will sign lots of players, as Klopp does not want to do that, as he stated, he does not like bringing in lots of players, he got rid of allot of players he did not want last summer, this summer I expect Sakho/Lucas/Sturridge to go, Moreno if we can get a buyer.

Talking of Markovic, he was really unlucky not to win the game for Hull, he gave De Gea the eyes and hit the post curling it round, was a cool finish but unlucky, he defo has ability, hopefully he can show some more and Klopp might give him a go, I think he will be given a chance if he shows ability, I'm glad he went on loan to a PL club, so he can get used to the PL, no point in going to Turkey etc for us.

As for Sakho, he's burnt his bridges with Klopp, I was hoping we would sell him, but it makes sense he went on loan as they pay his wages and get a loan fee, plus he's not moping around, if he plays well he might get a permanent move, which suits everyone.

So yes, good business for FSG and L:iverpool, what's wrong with that?

If we qualify for CL we will buy better quality players, we won't buy lots, but we will buy a core of first team players like we did this summer, all the players Klopp has bought have pretty much been first teamers who have played, for too long we were buying promising players who never played.

Klopp also got rid of allot of players in the summer, probably too many really, but I think he just didn't want players around he was not going to play, so less will be going in the future as most of them he see's now as his players, so the likes of Sakho/Lucas/Sturridge/Moreno will go if we get buyers.

This is a process of strengthening the team and building it stronger every Window, from where we were we cannot go from a weak squad to a squad of 22 first teamers in 1 summer window.

As long as Klopp gets the players he wants to build with I don't care if they are top tier or cheap. If we do get into the champions league and money is not made available then obviously questions will be asked,to what avail I don't know. I agree though if we were in Europe this season we would probably be a lot lower in the league.

I don't agree completely there.

We got Karius, Matip, Klavan, Wijnaldum and Mané.

3 of those (Matip, Wijnaldum and Mané) have been playing good and/or regularly, the other 2 (Karius and Klavan) not so good and/or not so often.

If we get CL for next season I think we will need around 4-5 new players of starting XI capacity. Can we manage to get that business done properly in just one summer window? If not we'll be goosed playing in 3 cups and PL.

Getting some of the younger players or loanees going would be nice though. Then we might not need more than say 3 new tcp's in the summer to get it working.

Oh, and all this subject to no players in our current starting XI leaving!

A tough ask all this IMO.

Klavan and Karius were not big buys, Klavan was a squad player who would happy to sit on the bench if Matip/Lovren are fit, to replace Toure and Skrtel, Karius has potential, he could become number 1, but he will need time to get used to the league, most GK struggle when they join the PL, Lloris didn't play for a while and De Gea struggled in his first season, you could argue Karius was a good buy because he has improved Mignolet by putting the pressure on him.

No doubt if we qualify for the CL we would struggle with our current squad, we do not have the numbers with the required quality, I think you need a squad of 18 genuine first team players, so you have 11 to play, can gave 2-3 injured/suspended and you have 4-5 to rotate when required, so resting players does not significantly weaken the first team. So I think we would buy quality players if we do get CL, over the summer, Klopp could bring in 4-5 players like he did this summer who are ready for the first team.
