Not wanting to make a mountain out of a molehill, but in an interview published here in the States yesterday (Sports Illustrated), the following question was put to Jurgen Klinsmann:
SI.com: I know you had some interest to coach from teams in the English Premiership. Is there any chance you could take a job over there?
Klinsmann: "The coaching side is a role where you really have to fit in with the people that run the environment. This is really important".
It is a very strange comment to make - especially so when you consider that Liverpool are currently the only club who are in the process of appointing a new manager and who have an "environment" that is being dictated by the owners. (with who Klinsmann is friendly) It is my firm belief that the use of Kenny's name is a ploy to give the appearance of popular approval to a choice that was made long ago and which is more about, image, money and sponsorships than the life and success of our club. Very sad! Everything is being orchestrated to set up an appealing "shop window" for any potential buyers.
He continues with spin:
And the next opportunity that I take on needs to have an environment where I feel really happy. I want to work with people that do it for the right reasons. I want to fit into an environment that kind of shares my philosophy, and my philosophy is an attacking style of football. That's just the way I think, and it's how I built the German team for the 2006 World Cup over two years, which was highly criticized over a long stretch of time, and then they embraced it. It's a style of plays that takes time to implement, and you need the environment that gives you that time. That's why I'm very cautious. It needs to fit.
Watch for an announcement in the coming weeks - sometime during the world cup (at which Klinsmann is commentating) and an unveiling to a world audience by the two Americans.
