thought his criticism of klavan was interesting, perhaps we should have signed a player like mustafi (who is on the verge of joining arsenal?), as we still have no idea whether matip will form a good partnership with lovren or co.

he also talked about how henderson doesn't suit the holding role as a lot of us can see he's not best suited, but I get the idea from klopp to keep our midfield line higher, and for henderson to try and push on almost as a 10 and make passes/have shooting opportunities, as Can did against arsenal at home last season.

hopefully he is the solution, as keown is right henderson's energy can obviously still be used in midfield, so too does Can. Can's good enough to play across any of the central midfield spots imo. then we still have lucas and if both were on song I reckon our midfield could be more secure - as an option, lucas has not much playing time under his belt though and we should have improved on signing a pure defensive mid if we were going to deploy one.

I thought Klavan did reasonably well, seeing as he's new to the league and the squad, I know we should have been hunting higher up the food chain if we want to win anything, but Klavan can't be blamed for that. My jury is still out on all our recent signings including Mane who's made a great start and Klavan who's made a decent start imo.

yes that's the point I think Keown was implying hercules, hunting higher up the food chain herc, he 'expected more of klopps most experienced signing' are his words, as he said it doesn't appear to him klavan is 'at the same level as skrtel or toure' let alone an improvement, saying he needs to improve quickly if he is to stay as part of our defence, that last part which I think we can agree on most. he didn't think the way klopp managed moreno was conducive either.

Klavan was never bought as a starter so it's a little unfair on him. Hunting further up the food chain is where Matip comes in. I know he wasn't £50m but he's the first choice for sure.

Well he is only our 4th choice centre back and he did do well in preseason, but Keown is right he needs to improve quickly. His performances in both of the first 2 games were terrible. Matip looks pretty good though.

yep guys we needed that, matip to look like a good defender from the get go. lovren still playing like a leader besides him, annoying we couldn't get the CS. hopefully we have improved our defence and shown martin we can defend

Maybe Klavan was bought as a replacement for Sturridge?
Who knows with this team...aren't they all utility players?
After all, we loaned Caulker and played him as a striker!
