Oh well. That's the world over then. Out the EU, out of the Euros and now Mane!

Can't say I'm over the moon by this signing, as he's not proven top class, to some extent he's proven mid table class, and needs to make the step up. However I'm prepared to reserve judgement until he has a chance to do that and prove himself and Klopp, I assume he's a Klopp selection, at least I hope he's a Klopp signing. The one thing I'm pleased about is that we're signing players prior to the preseason and that at least is welcome.

Liverpool have given southampton 92+ million to southampton in the last 2 seasons. In that time we have gone from 2nd in the league to 8th. Time to stop signing f*king players off southampton, sick of it at this stage now...

Agreed. It's gotta stop.

Our best players are players we have poached from big teams because they weren't playing. Sturridge and coutinho. I'd rather try that route again instead of players doing well for small teams. We need a winning mentality.

Ive been get slated on the forums for saying i dont want Mane... i literally think some people believe sadio mane is the only winger in the world we couldve bought.... and for 30+ million.

I reiterate that i still think this isnt klopps signing. I think we couldnt/didnt bother get who klopp wanted so FSG's fantastic transfer committee let him with Mane. You also have to take into account Klopp has never spent 30 million on a player. I think Mhiktaryan was bought for around 19 mil and even Reus was bought for 11 mil. I dont think Klopp thinks Mane will be better than these 2 or even other players he signed for Dortmund.

I sick to death listening about transfer fees going up because of tv deals. I just wanna put it out there Gundogan went for 20 mil (10 + mil less than mane) and looks like mhitaryan is going to Utd for 25(5+ mil less than Mane). Im not saying we couldve signed either of them but we paid the asking price for Mane, not his actual value of a max of 15 million.

I hope im proved wrong and he goes on to score lots of goals and be a success but track record has proven we have a history of flops signed for big money. Maybe he will be 10th time lucky. Im just not seen it

Mkhitaryan and Gundogan will be on enormous wages, it's pointless comparing them with Mane just based on transfer fee.

No reports of the wages we've offered Mane, but he was on ~45k p/w at Southampton, I seriously doubt we've offered more than 100k p/w and wouldn't be surprised to see Mkhitaryan and Gundogan's closer to 200k, we just can't afford players like that on our books.

People REALLY need to stop getting hung up on transfer fees, it means almost nothing.

Yeah we're making them a rich club, and in the process falling behind ourselves. We need someone with an eye for a player, if we're going to stick with selecting the best of the mid table clubs, one season wonders, freebies, etc, and overpaying in the process. Has Klopp got an eye for a player? His record would suggest he has, so maybe Mane and the others he signed this season will surprise us. That is providing they're his selections and not the FSG/committee signings. Personally I'd be more confident if we chose proven top quality, as we usually overpay for these prospects and therefore the price difference is minimal. The reality is our recruitment policy is stupid beyond foolishness!

I would never pressure my thoughts and opinions on anyone but i feel really let down with the transfers so far. We have bought players who nobody knows anything about, except matip, at least in my case i think hes a great signing. I fear for liverpool and the direction the club is going. I dont want to see us return to things like in the 90's where we kept having up and down seasons.

If i was to say on paper right now, i would say liverpool will finish at maximum of 5th if we are lucky and other teams suffer from playing in europe. Its not just because we signed Mane, its because the type of players we are willing to overpay for.

When people mention Tv deals and transfer fee means nothing i think thats bol*ix, people will defend paying 30+ million for Mane, does that mean they wouldnt complain if we paid 50 for Troy deeney? Of course they would so would I and everyone else. I f*king hope southampton get relegated so hopefully we wont sign anymore of their players smile

This says it all for me. If we keep buying players from mid-table clubs like Southampton who class finishing in the top half as a success we cannot expect to be anything other than a mid-table team.

Still Mane is here now, I hope he does well and proves he is worth what is an enormous and potentially club record transfer fee!
