It's not lallana's finishing that particularly annoys me, even if he doesn't have many goals to his game, and he had 2 similar chances he failed to take against both russia and slovakia, it's his style which frustrates me. He has a fair amount of shots - but crucially not in good areas most of the time. He's not like mane, he's not a direct player. I don't know about his off the ball work, when we're in possession, not out of it, as the attacking team. certainly his off the ball workrate is good when we're the defending team, hence he makes 2 tackles per match.

Yes but then if the whole team is under performing at the start and middle of the season it is harsh to blame one player for not having great stats when the most of the team don't either.

He's got the work rate and the creativity and if he is making an intelligent run off the ball to create space for someone else to score, or a neat flick to assist the assist then those stats don't represent his true contribution.

I also think his form was one the reasons why our whole team's form picked up.

With the chances he gets, he should be scoring more

Lallana is no predator. Jinking and turning is his "thing" and that seems to be his lot. Scoring a goal now and again is more of a surprise than an expectation. He hasn't got the hunger or instinct to bang in a hat-full of goals like a Suarez type of player.

Lallana's importance to us is what Silva is to City. He creates chances on and more importantly for this debate, off the ball.

If we can replace Lallana with someone like Gotze then fair enough, but replacing Lallana with someone like Mane/ another potential would be a waste of time imo, they'd yield very similar results. If we can't get an clear upgrade on him, I'd like to keep him, same with Allen. They're not the best but if we can't get the best, why swap them for player who will need to adapt?

Lallana is nowhere near Silva who is technically well ahead and has more composure in front of goal

I never said they were on par, I said the importance to their clubs is similar, despite neither being prolific, goal scoring midfielders.

I like Lallana, but I'm not delusional. Silva is obvs better.

i dont care if he can run a marathon each game ! goals are what win matches if he can up the goals tally all good but can we take a risk with taking up an attacking role and not scoring ?

in my opinion NO!

Can you name a PL midfielder that is like that? There aren't any.

Yaya got 20 from midfield in 13/14, other than that, the average is about 10-12 for a midfielder.

I said it before- If we can't replace Lallana with a CLEAR upgrade then why replace him at all? Just gonna be another transition season for that position, and we'll be talking about the same stuff this time next year.

Mane might be more natural in the RAM position, but Lovren was meant to be ready from the second he signed, took him a year.

it's not to do with settling in so much, if we don't improve our spine and our ability to win the ball back high up the field and get more out of players like firmino, then yes we'll probably get similar results with mane, and there wouldn't be any point of getting a right winger you're right, certainly not for 30 million.

Lovren was pretty much ready, he can't help he joined directly after the season we'd lost the league and sht hit the fan. I think he did well to ride the storm and has looked fantastic now we have more of an attacking brand of football. - again not backing up mane to sign for us though, he's not the most creative player, but improving the right side of our attack isn't just about replacing lallana.

Why replace him at all though? because even if liverpool do improve tremendously in our midfield, lallana isn't direct enough (will remain a great squad player), going forward, he's not our perfect goalscoring right winger.

having said that, I will just add onto that, coutinho acts as more of our inside forward goalscoring player same as sanchez is for arsenal on the left. liverpool have surely have a choice to make about the structure of their team, and I think it emphasizes the need for a real monster DM who can take some of the tackling load (someone who can preferably pick passes like fabregas on that right hand side of midfield too in the same role), lallana has a lot of defensive responsibility on that right hand channel. I'm not saying he's naturally the best going forward anyway, but we have an imbalance-ment in our team.
