As I expected, England have far too much quality and despite a dissappointing performance they overcame Wales, delighted for Sturridge to get the winner. Milner should of started on the left instead of the out of form Sterling. Good result.

funny that england have pretty much dominated both their matches, yet almost end up with an embarrassing 2 points, same as every other tournament can't buy a goal. we shouldn't be happy with those 2 performances despite 4 points, because we don't know how to play football in the final 3rd it seems yet, not even really in our warm up matches when we had vardy and kane up front, we had limited success offensively. now we'll probably be up against teams who want to attack us (I'm not saying wales didn't but russia certainly didn't) and will use a back 4, we could switch back to a 4231 and get the PL's top goalscorer kane (who has played a lot of matches this season so might be a bit fatigued) finally putting the ball in the back of the net.
anyone else given up trying to understand england in relation to other teams?
other than the welsh fans, who were laughing at our 1-1 with russia, they do realize russia actually tried to attack slovenia and showed how poor they were defensively. instead of relying on long balls, set pieces, and broken play against england, only did the russians really commit men forward against england at the end. that is the difference between england russia, and the slovenia russia matches.
I was going to post on here before the match I don't envy roy hodgson, and I don't think anyone else should of with the decisions he had to make. bit like the reds hey dominate but cant score in some ways, but I think some teams show too much respect or it's in their best interests to keep 11 men behind the ball, because the same could be said for man utd this season. possession wise dominant but unless you have the lead, you can have all the possession in the world. part of being 'better in possession' is obviously being able to create chances with the ball no matter where your opponent is though. poland arguably created the better chances against germany staying compact, although gotze's header and ozil's curling effort came close. poland had chances through milik, and a gaping chance early in the 2nd half.

I'm with Red Scouser here, thought Lallana played really well. One of the only ones to be constantly moving, creating space and at least trying to create chances. I still think we should buy another wide player for the right but I'd be happier with competition fr him rather than a replacement.
It was talked about in another thread about lallana being a rubbish winger and there are loads better than him in that position but I struggle to think of many in the PL.
Willian, Hazard, Mata, Depay, Martial, Navas, Chadli, Lamela. All wingers but none are prolific with goals/ assists. Of course Lallana isn't the best winger in the world and at 28 he's not gonna get any better than what he is now, but he is definitely better than a lot of people here give him credit for and if we replace him I think we will regret it.

England are England. Mostly timid pass..timid pass, then punt, sometimes a few decent interchanges and a cross then a goal. sometimes Rooney kicks an opponent. That's it.
"England have dominated two games..." hehe hheh hehhhh... aaaaah read as above.
Its really awful football they continue to play under Hodgson and they have some decent players.
The whole world would love for England to entertain and win. They are not capable of it.

They are not capable of it. even the media said we dominated the russia game (russia only had 1 shot on target up until the very last kick of the game virtually, btw I'm not saying england are good, we can be, but we're going to suck most probably if we make the knockouts), and we forced wales into their own half, I quote one of the 2 welshman on the BBC coverage 'we couldn't get out and attack' - what do you call that? I call that being quite dominant. you're making the victories in the football and rugby even more sweeter.

England are nearly a good side, problem is Roy doesn't know how to fit his best players into the team. Starting Sterling for instance, when he has clearly hit rockbottom, was just a response to ur last friendly game where he ended up with vardy and kane as wingers. I could pick a side for u to win it but I not gonna cause Ireland are still in it

I think kane looked burned out. He has had a long season especially with all the pressure that was on him at spurs, been their main goal threat. Vardy and sturridge is a nice combo to have playing up front together and compliment each other in a lot of ways.
The way the media went on about rooney really puzzled me. Im not been biased but i didnt think he done anything great against wales other than pass the ball sideways and a few good passes out wide. He cost them a goal from a free kick in that game and seemed to go without criticism. I dont know what game they were watching or maybe its just not me seen it.

Your comment raises an important point. Because he was a Brendan signing fans do alter their opinion of him even if it is subconscious. Absolute rubbish, I suggest you watch him live week in week out to see how little he actually contributes apart from running around and Cruyff turns that lead to nothing! I've watched a lot of him and he has flattered to deceive from time to time but since Klopp has come in and more recently with England more often than not he has been majestic on the ball and work horse off it.

IMO the highlighted part could be used to describe your own impression of Lallana. No. I was critical of Rodgers' signings but given time to settle and to develop a few of them are turning out to be good signings.
