'if he's good enough' therein lies the key, and you don't want to be drastically overpaying for someone who isn't. most of rodgers signing weren't good enough, especially not at the time, but I don't see why we should promote double standards. I agree now is the time to spend though with the extra money from the tv deals, if we can improve for next season and long term.
I'm no accountant but correct
So modest too.
What I don't get is how some people think that they either know more than staff at the club that have been working in football for 30 years or that a massive light bulb has appeared above their head and they've thought of something NO ONE within LFC has EVER though of.
EVERYONE connected to LFC knows we've disappointed year after year on the pitch and in the transfer market. The solution is not as simple as "the TV money is here, time to throw it all at Gotze" (example).
Do you not think that even Rodgers knew full well the players he bought weren't really good enough for sustained competitiveness? I'm 29 and for as long as I can remember, we have more often than not, settled for what's available, with the odd exception.
Even the best players we've bought in the last 10 years (Suarez, Torres, Coutinho) were picked as more budget options at the time compared to who the teams above us were buying. I distinctly remember the backlash on here over the Coutinho (Inter reject, too lightweight) and Suarez (never heard of him, not fit to wear #7) signings, despite the fact that someone with WAY more information and experience has deemed them suitable. It is, of course, a 2-way street. Those same people were involved with Carroll (had a banging season the year before, in a team set up to play to his strengths), Downing (bought for Carroll's sake I presume), Markovic (actually perfomred well for Benfica dopmestic + CL), The Summer of Southampton (still paid too much but I'm happy we have Lovren and Lallana now), Aspas (LOL), Alberto (LOL)...the list goes on, but I struggle, I REALLY struggle to believe a whole committee of people thought Aspas was gonna do much more than he actually managed.
Since I've been watching LFC, we have NEVER bought a ready made, in demand player for big bucks. It's not how Liverpool work. Maybe it should be but at the moment it's not.
Everyone else has TV money too so it's not as if we're in any better of a situation with regards to competing in the transfer market than anyone else in the PL. We can offer bigger wages, sure, but we're not in any European competition this year which automatically rules us out of a lot players, regardless of the wages on offer.
