The Scottish league is about the same standard as League 1 though so I'd be wary, then again Wanyama and Van Dijk have done well at Southampton after coming down from Scotland.

I always liked Christian Ziege, wasn't with us long, never knew why we sold him, but was a good player, could defend and get forward, we had Babbel around the same time, 2 good German full backs, won 3 trophies in 2000-2001 with them.

I'd like us to go German again and get Jonas Hector, he's at Koln and there were rumours a few months ago we were in for him, I think we could get him.

Yeah, but he was at Middlesbrough, wouldn't have took much tapping up it was odd, we went all out to get him, then we sold him to Tottenham after a year, I think we were fined for poaching him about a year after we sold him on???? was a few strange ones with Houllier in charge, like Litmanen etc

Houllier also signed Hyypia and Henchoz for around £7mil if memory serves me right, what I'd give for a centre half partnership like that now.
Add in Carragher and Markus Babbel and the whole back 4 was assembled for less than £7million!

Yep, certainly a good back 4, as I said with Ziege & Babbel, was focusing on full backs, just saying a few players like Litmanen, Ziege etc you would have expected to be a bigger success and stay longer, he also got rid of Fowler, one of Houllier best signings was Gary Mac on a free, he really helped to bring through Gerrard.

I loved Houllier but selling God was a mistake, it was awesome when Rafa brought him back though!

And Gary McAllister was a brilliant signing like you say, Didi Hamann was a great player for us then as well, very under-rated.

We should bring back Aaron Cresswell from West Ham. He was released from us by Houllier when he was a youngster and has grafted to get where he is today via Tranmere, Ipswich & West Ham.
We're always mentioning the lack of local lads in the team and he would be solving at least 2 problems if we signed him!
Still only 26 and is a lifelong Liverpool fan, taken from Daily Telegraph from 2014- Cresswell said: “I grew up supporting Liverpool and I used to go to games with my dad so it was heartbreaking when I was a kid to be released but in a way it’s helped me get where I am today.
Another problem area for Liverpool has been having somebody who can take a half decent corner kick, Cresswell is an expert at them!
The defender’s first two years at Portman Road delivered four goals and 10 assists but in 2013/14, he stepped up considerably – two goals and 14 assists earning him a place in the Championship Team of the Season and convinced Big Sam to splash the cash to get him at West Ham. One point of note is that Cresswell was handed the majority of set-pieces and corners by Ipswich, with his dead-ball delivery fundamental to those 14 assists in the 13/14 season.
He's played every prem league game since he signed for West Ham with "NO" injuries in that time. I think he'd be a good acquisition and wouldn't take much convincing to sign for us!

fairytales don't happen in football, he's sadly not good enough, I think I'd want a mid or striker taking our set pieces rather than a defender too. I'm not sure I'd even take the cb scott dann who also supports our club
