First things first Klopp has to sort out the defence, MAtip is coming but we need so much more, Clyne is the only one I be sad to see go. Tough unnervous defenders we need. Then gotta look at a passer in the alonso mode ,we don't have a conductor .

OK We have a good team, but how good are we?? Loosing today was difficult but let's look at all of the big teams in Europe how do we compare next to them! In order to be the Liverpool team that we all wish for we must start buying the best players. When we have a squad like the top 5 teams in Europe today, then we can really compete. Yes nothing is impossible but we are Liverpool we should not be underdogs in any competition we play in.
Liverpool is a big team in Europe therfore should start buying the best players.
I agree with you to a large extent, can you suggest who though to start with? (without CL football like man utd we might struggle to attract bigger players now) I'm a fan of Klopp and we know he is a good manager. OK we know klopp did change the mentality of our players but one thing we also should know that quality can mean strong mentality too. Can you see us Compete for the league title next season? To give it a try doesn't necessarily mean we are ready for the challenge. To be a strong contender means we get the world's best players. Unfortunately this is modern football it is so competitive so we need the best to be the best. It is difficult now big players want CL. Let's hope that with Klopp we can still attract the best regardless of CL football!

In the market place you tend to get what you pay for, so if that rumour is correct it should tell us how high our ambition reaches. What was it Shanks said about reaching for the ceiling, again?

Leicester bought hardly any players above £5 million and they did ok, you do not have to pay massively over the odds, we have done that in the past and not got improvements, look at Benteke, Klopp will buy the players to suit the system and coach them to improve them in the team, we don't need to spend £30-50 million on a player to get a decent player.

So we've learned nothing by spending 300m on over 30 prospects under the current policy then? We should copy Leicester who just won the title for the first time in 130 years in the kind of freakish season that's unlikely ever to be repeated? So we think all the best sides in Europe consistently compete at the top of their leagues and in the CL just because they're lucky, and would be doing the same if they spent a fraction of their expenditure on player fees and wages? So we think they're all stupid spendthrifts who year on year waste their money by the tens of millions on players like Suarez when they'd do just as well with Aspas?

Yep consistently compete at the Top is the key. Unfortunately it isn't enough just to have best players and it also isn't enough just to have the best manager. To be at that kind of level you need the best of both players and manager.

Hopefully what we've learnt is to spend the money wisely, which has been the main problem for me. This £5m rated keeper might be just what we need. If he isn't then we've spent £5m. Under Rodgers in previous years we'd be spending up to and upwards of £20m on prospects and that's the issue.

Flawed logic there wilkij, "If he isn't then we've spent 5m." No wilkij if he isn't then we've wasted 5m. But the real problem is we'll be doing what Einstein called madness, and that is repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting different results! It's time we learned that in a functioning market place quality generally costs, and trying to do it on the cheap is gambling. We've already gambled 300m and we're 8th in the league and won nothing. Would Einstein keep doing that?

But my point is we haven't done it on the cheap. We've spent enough money on some of our prospects to have bought the quality, Markovic for example. I also remember some on here complaining that we didn't spent £30m on Depay! Yes it will be £5m wasted and I'd prefer we spend £20m on the finished article. But it's £5m not the £20m of the past. We need to spend smart this time!
Can I also just ask, what if this keeper turns out brilliant for £5m? What would you be saying then?
