Three Reds played in morale-boasting comeback against Germany - and pressing style there for all to see..

Adam Lallana led the work - deciding when it was time for the forward line to exert their press on the opposition.

In midfield the efforts of those in front allowed Jordan Henderson to retrieve loose balls and feed a rampaging full back out wide in Nathaniel Clyne.

It was like a scene from a Jurgen Klopp wet dream with Liverpool - yet it was unfolding in a game managed by one of his less lauded predecessors in the Anfield hot seat, Roy Hodgson.

England’s efforts in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium on Saturday night drew plenty of praise, the first time in history a German team had led 2-0 on home soil at half time and ended the game defeated.

Even when trailing, England’s play had been full of energy and ideas.

While the word press - gegen or otherwise - was barely mentioned during Hodgson’s disastrous six months at Anfield, his early success in Sweden is said to have been founded on a hard work principle with constant pressure in the opponent.

But England certainly benefited from current club connections during the game...

Hogdson's always admired liverpool (maybe because he Was our manager for a short period) and if he has the players to press, and players to support that press and mark tightly then hats off to him for having the confidence to let england play that way.

Lallana had a good game, could of taken his chance better though, Henderson, as I mentioned before the match, in the liverpool Can role, next to Dier where he would ordinarily be, chased like a man possessed, excellent, didn't make the right choice sometimes, and got a good chance blocked, but england scored from his 2 resulting corners which we deserved. clyne was terrific, still lost an aerial battle for germany's second though - he should be commanding that area, if cahill can't stay with the runner and he drifts off him(?)..he just can't deal with the cross-field pass, he needs to work on that side of his game.

Donut, do you remember this one then?

We didn't win in the end, but we equalized after Germany had been 4-0 up at home (it was 3-0 at half time)!

It was in 2012 in a World Cup qualification game.

Haha!

Absolutely stunning!

I saw he had 8 shots on goal, and scored 4! laugh

On the other hand: It wasn't against one of the Big Football Countries, was it? Just one of the minnows! Last won the World Cup back in 1966. Can hardly be described as a big football country then, can it? whistle

By the way: The England Manager back then wasn't a foreigner either - strange that they didn't win the match. A foreign manager would have explained it all! grin

Haha.

You're probably quite right.

But just putting it out as I see it, to travesty another famous poster. smile
