Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has admitted that keeping Newcastle United in the Premier League could be more difficult than the Reds legendary comeback victory over Milan in the Champions League final.

With just eight games remaining of their season, the Magpies are currently second bottom of the Premier League on 25 points, one adrift of local rivals Sunderland and three behind Norwich City who are outside the relegation zone but have played a game more than the North East pair.

While Liverpool's stirring Istanbul revival in 2005 after being 3-0 down at half-time which climaxed with a penalty shoot-out victory over the Italian club is widely regarded as the most spectacular recovery in a major football final, Benitez acknowledges his current escape act is complicated by not being entirely in his own team's hands...

Nope not for me, keeping Newcastle up is easier than what happened in Istanbul, Istanbul was a miracle which history wise hardly ever happens, I am not saying keeping Newcastle up will be easy but I think the waiter is just trying to take the pressure off himself with that statement. To this day That Liverpool team that won in Istanbul is still the worst team to win the Champions League in Champions League History...
