I wouldn't even bother having a permanent captain. Being 'captain' kind of guarantees you a place in the team......and that can only breed complacency. Anyone can call 'heads or tails' before kick off......even Jordan Henderson!!!

I wouldnt have a problem with a new signing becoming captain of liverpool just as long as they have a track record of been a leader or someone who can inspire the team.

Henderson cannot do either. He was outed as been a soft captain when the penalty incident happened last year. Dont get me wrong i love the shift he puts in for 90 mins for us but after searching past liverpool captains its hard to find a captain thats worse than hendo basing it on my lifetime.

I agree. I hate this obsession we have in England with our captains. The England squad is the same and as you say garuntees a starting place.

That standard of player has become acceptable at liverpool. Its filled with some mediocre players. Im sure klopp will change all that by shifting all these players out in the summer.

I think if Henderson loses the armband (which seems likely) then we won't have a "designated captain" for the next couple of seasons.

I don't think there is anyone in the current squad that should get the armband (right now) and I don't like the idea of giving it to a new signing.

More often than not, I expect either Lovren or Can to have the armband next season but moving forward I can see Joe Gomez being our captain for many years to come. The guy oozes confidence and class and even at 18 he was commanding the back line at the start of season.

Obvious choice is Sakho who was captain for France and PSG. The fans love him too so that helps. We have no leaders but Sakho is the closest thing to a leader.
