As a Liverpool supporter, I was very worried when we drew Manchester United in the Europa League. I know that our team is not ready to win the title and we'll be knocked out at some stage, but to be knocked out by United would be an absolute nightmare, them being the enemy and this being the first meeting between the two clubs in Europe, so you can imagine the amount of satisfaction I gained when we knocked them out, the only regret being that they were able to escape with a draw at Old Trafford despite us having many chances to kill the game. The fact that their great keeper DeGea was man of the match in both games tells the whole story. For that all Liverpool supporters have one man to thank, Jurgen Klopp, who has transformed the club in a matter of months. That our rise has coincided with United's descent makes it all the more sweet. Klopp hasn't declared it publicly yet but I'm certain he's said it loud and clear to his players in the confines of the dressing room, "We shall knock them off their fukking perch". Payback time it seems!

Haha! Good one! Thought you meant James Perch who played for Newcastle (and who is at QPR now)!

Payback time it seems! yes it's very good to think that way but somehow I think you might have it wrong if you think because we knocked out the poorest Manchester United team since the one Sir Alex took over from Ron from Old Swan you might have it based on wrong things. I think when Fergie knocked us off our perch the game was different and the gap between United and Liverpool at the time Club wise wasn't as big, if you fast forward to now United are about 3 or 4 times the size of Liverpool and we will never overtake them financially or in size, we might on the odd occasion finish higher than them when they have a poor season or two but that will be far and few between. The problem we had was we needed to build on the lead we had over them back in 1990 but we never, the SKY money came in and the rest they say is History...

It was great, but yes we should have beat the scum at the old toilet. Anyway we are into the next round and that is the main thing. Well done Jurgen Klopp

Payback time it seems! For once I find myself with a different opinion imadk, I was pretty confident of the first leg, and just slightly worried that we didn't put them to the sword then. Failure to do that can often come back and bite you, but Van Gall did us a favour with his tactics and unbelievable substitutions. But I do agree with you it would have rankled had they managed to knock us out of this historic tie. Very sweet victory.

good one. i hope he did say that..however an uphill task awaits.if we get it right in summer,i kinda think we will be better n more settled than the obvious favourite rich boys. for that reason,it will be better to be in lesser competitions and exploit PL chances more than other cups etc.something which lesta have done this season??
but happy to have kicked scum out and would be great if we finish above them in PL too.

The perch thing and everything from that era is history. It was a myth in the first place, one which Fergie spun and the media poodles at his feet ran with and exaggerated, but anyhow it's all in the past. (If we still want to run with it, we should acknowledge that it's not us he knocked them off any perch... Chelsea gave them a nudge and Manchester City completed the task a few years ago.)
And that's precisely why Klopp is a breath of fresh air for us and is more likely to succeed. He's one of the next generation with a clear mind and focussed on the now and the future. I don't think he let's the historical things cloud his thinking and become a burden.

For me Istanbul was a waste of time if you want to be a big Club, the reason is there was no point winning it if we were not going to build on it and we haven't, mark my words we will still be singing about it in 50 years time as we won't of added to it, it will be a giant millstone much like the World Cup is for the England football team now as what there fans expect every time they go into a major tournament...
