I remember the 1970,s very well every game there was voilence no matter who the opposition Stanley park lime street and in and outside the stadium my recollection mostly it was intimidation chanting and threats but the real voilence was by organised gangs and this still goes on today I bet there is a fight organised this Thursday in the 70,s as today certain clubs have the firms London clubs Stoke Birmingham Leeds spring to mind you often find also much of the voilence is smaller clubs rather the big corporate clubs like Liverpool United etc

Never heard of the urchins ? Of course United had hooligans so did Liverpool so did every club you simply don't like United so creating something to justify your hatred when you get older and wiser you will realise it's all nonsense they are people just as we are in fact with corporate football and ripping fans off we have quite a lot in common.

There was a TV play ( as opposed to movie) made around 1985 about three travelling Man Utd fans on the footy special. There were two lads and a girl, one of the lads (think he was called'Joey') was a nasty piece of work and spoke about stabbing opponent fans. The other two were boisterous but told 'Joey' he was out of order.
They got into conversation with an older fan, around 60. At first the conversation was about the footy - seem to remember them talking about Jesper Olson. Then Joey started with all the hard talk, about what he'd do to opponent fans. He then showed the old man a knife, and said he was going to use it at the match.
Anyway, it ended with the train going through a tunnel, with the carriage in darkness for a few seconds and as it came out Joey was lifeless with a knife stuck in him, The older fan says to the others something like 'I had to do it in the name of decency. He couldn't be allowed to go on and do whatever he was going to do...think you two should disappear quick, no one will believe an old man like me would have done this'.

Oh dear that proves how bad United fans are I guess Liverpool fans however were busy collecting for charity helping old ladies accross the road and cleaning the streets

I think this can be seen quite clearly in some of the posts of the younger kids on the forum like Prophet, wikij1975 and Donut, I think when you see how impressionable the likes of these younger posters are and there use of the word scum to describe fellow fans from opposing teams, besides feeling a bit sorry for them you have to remember younger fans like these do follow like sheep as they know no different. and are very impressionable, I think when you see some of the posts these young kids post you can also see exactly how these things have escalated into songs about Hillsborough and Munich and further more in to violence on occasions for some. Just my thoughts anyway..
Beans on Toast today, am getting in first...

This bit I agree with you on. Calling rival fans/clubs "scum" is truly pathetic and shouldn't be tolerated in today's society.
the only thing I can try to defend them with is its just the kids on the forum who use this term, they probably think it's cool to call opposing fans it and probably pick it up in the schools. I think we should just try to educate them a bit and point it out to them it's wrong but the problem is they take is so personal and don't like tellings off like naughty school boys don't, never mind tho they will learn as they get older...

Only those who are educated can educate others. You have been calling fellow fans here parasites, so you can shut up and get educated first.

That said, they are scum, and they like it that way. They call us the bin dippers, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Football is nothing without rivalry, and our hatred, in a way is a sign of respect. You don't hate a club that isn't important. They are our greatest rivals, and I will continue to hat them, call them scum, and enjoy the rivalry.

That said, I have many friends who are United friends, and we have always been civil and respectful about non-football related things. The banter is healthy.
so redordead, can you just clear something up for me regarding you saying its alrite to call other fans scum and pass it of as healthy rivalry, as I am not as clever as you seem to be, little example.
You are with a group of Liverpool fans standing outside Old Trafford on Thursday Night waiting to go in, a group of United fans walk past on there way in with United Scarves and hats, in this group happen to be maybe your dad, brother or sister and the rest of the group your with start hurling vile abuse and calling them scum as they walk past, what do you do, will you join in because as you say it's healthy rivalry, do you say nothing or would you say to the people your with hang on a minute leave it out there not scum at all. Please tell me redordead as I am curious to know what would you say or do in that situation, cheers pal...
