Initial contact between Inter Milan and Rafa Benitez has taken place. Inter technical director Marco Branca has been in touch with the Liverpool manager him to ask him if he would like to take over at the Serie A club.

Rafa will need to decide soon. He is still waiting for signs of a good reason to stay at Liverpool - or a major offer to convince him to leave. Inter Milan would be enticing, but Rafa`s first choice is to remain at Anfield. The problem is, nobody at Liverpool is willing to guarantee him that any money he can raise through selling players will be reinvested in the team – nor is there any evidence that funds available from the board will be sufficient for the squad rebuilding that is urgently required.

Should Benitez move to Serie A, he would inherit an ageing Inter squad with many senior players mirroring a brand of football in Jose Mourinho`s image and with just two genuinely creative midfielders in Sneijder and Cambiasso. Benitez would need money to spend and an injection of new blood should he decide to make the switch.

AC Milan have also made contact with Rafa`s agent on two occasions now, and an offer from Inter`s rivals may hold greater appeal than following in Mourinho`s footsteps after a season in which they could have won everything possible.

If benitez was really a bad manager, as people portray him to be, why have the likes of real, juve, ac and inter milan want him....

because he may be succesful in italy, but not in england.

exactly, his style would probably fit much better in the italian league.

i was just thinking, if mourinho would have taken charge of LFC in 2004 and benitez of Chelsea...

what would have happened? Realistically thinking, mourinho with his language was guaranteed to have issue's with H+G regarding transfers, he would have to sell to buy and he would have to settle for second targets...

and benitez would have inherited a good chelsea squad, which the previous finished second and reached champions league semi-final and financial backing........

just a honest thought......

i just hope our club is sold to genuine owners, who have the finances to buy and build a stadium...

getting rid of the manager or players is not priority from my point...it is getting a new owner...

Benitez a genuine, hard-working passionate football man that given the right support will win trophies.We're trying to get rid of him while there's a clamour of the worlds best clubs trying to get him.Makes sesne that they want them but not that we want rid of him?!

Lucas, he's about as passionate as a concrete slab. and as for this right support sh*t, i think we can knock that on the head. what a ridiculous thing to say, thats like saying with the right education i could be president, with the right fitness instructor i could win an olympic gold medal, with the right ass i could be J-LO. the list goes on. the reality is he had enough support to at least not destroy the club and he failed. failed failed failed. he had some success by the skin of Gerrards and Carragher's teeth but now he is a failure. we finished 7th, and got europa because a club went into administration. what a bucket of puke that is.
