I understand that people are frustrated with Sturridge's injury record, but I actually think he does want to play. To say he is lazy or unprofessional is, I think, just insulting him for the sake of it.
I think Klopp needs to be more pragmatic with Sturridge, recognise that when he plays we are more threatening, and lighten his training expectations accordingly. I'd rather Sturridge played 12 more games this season at something near his best level of fitness - whatever that may be, than no games at all because he can't complete the training schedule in its gruelling entirety.
If Klopp doesn't let up on Sturridge, he'll never play for us again - but he may then move to a club that adopts a different approach to his training, whereupon he manages 30 odd games and scores 20 odd goals. We have no striking options beyond a Firmino that is finding his feet and a Benteke that is ill suited to our style. I'd love to see Sturridge play the first half tomorrow - even if it is only the first half and even if he's not quite fully fit.
I worry that our injuries are down, in part, to the mismatch of Klopp's training and the more intense seasonal demands (more games) on PL players. The problem is that there are a few stories now from people who are saying that he has to be perfect to play a game. Was it the story were Suarez and Gerrard pleaded with him to play in a utd game that he did not want to play and he ended up scoring the winner. Now with all these injuries comebacks, ready one week and not the next, Klopp saying he needs to handle pain better. People are putting 2 and 2 together. Now this is his job that he gets 150k a week right? In my job and a lot of others people's job you would probably get sacked or get a good kick up the hole and be told to stop being a fanny. But footballers are a different bred.... If he does ever get back, then he needs to put in neck on the line for this team. But he won't do that the next little niggle in an important game he will most likely sit it out I hear what you're saying but the difference is you and I aren't athletes and they are. If we get a slight twist or strain it doesn't matter. If they do and play throuh it, it could lead to a bigger problem and a long time out. I think it's bad management if him last term in bringing him back too early as we needed him. Same happened with Owen back in the day. I think it's now led to a mental block on him and him needing to feel 100%. To say he's just swinging the lead is fukking stupid imo.

I get the feeling now there has been a lot of times were he was good enough to play. This is what pisses me off. Also all the mental block [oops] is [oops]. I have a mental block every morning when I have to get out of my bed to go to a job I do not like. I soon get over that when I know I won't get paid if I don't. These "athletes" do not have that problem. Mental block! the lad needs to grow a set

So he's just being lazy? Just can't be arsed? You really believe that?
That seems to be the band wagon to jump on so must be true I suppose. There something wrong but there's nothing to suggest it's a bad attitude and he doesn't want to play.
It's also funny how now he just needs a poker up his hole and doesn't need special treatment but when he got injured with England last season everyone was out for Hodgeson for not giving him recovery time!

Very harsh Stan with no facts to back any of it up.
The lad loves football, to say he would prefer to sit on the bench all season and be frowned upon as some sort of outcast is ridiculous. Who wants to go to work limping about in training everyday deliberately to then watch all your team mates be out there playing every Saturday?
To find another player like him would cost £30 million? Dream on, in 2016 try £50 million plus. He doesn't just add a little to our game when he plays, we are virtually unbeatable.
So cancel his contract are some of the cries? £160 grand a week! Do people understand how much that would cost for him then to walk into any club he wishes?
I agree totally with D500, his training needs tailoring (if it isn't already) and it takes as long as it takes. I don't care if it sounds mad, I'd have sent him off to Barbados or similar for 2 weeks in the pool and warm climate, get in the sinew of the muscles away from the freezing Northern wind and damp that creeps in the bones as soon as Christmas had finished. This is about the long term with a player of this quality.
Yes he is that good and if he gets over this hurdle will be our Aguero for next season without doubt.
The facts are he never plays and his injury record and attitude have been right through his career at Chelsea and City. Gerrard was critical of his motivation in his book our current manager says he does not know what's up with him. I am pretty sure the club have tried every training routine in the book and recently send him for intensive therapy to America. Our only option it seems is to pay him huge amounts of money to do nothing. I would also question the impact on the other players when he is being indulged in this way. At some point we have to deal with this situation

Do you think he would play through the pain like Henderson, Gerrard etc for the team? I don't know and neither do you for sure. He may well have done many times for all we know. Plus playing through the pain didn't do Hendo much good as he played one game then was out for another couple. I seem to remember others making their injuries worse by doing it too. I also remember times when players have gone off to have operations with a few games left in the season instead of playing on. I'm sure Gerrard did it a few seasons back. Look, this situation isn't good and it's very frustrating as we all know what he can do when he plays. But some of the shitte being spouted about him is just that, shitte. None of us know for sure what has gone on and not even one little comment by Gerrard in his book with no context or right of reply by Sturridge is concrete evidence so forgive me if I don't join in the player bashing just yet.

There is no need for Gerrard for lie about Sturridge in his book, I've read the particular bit about Sturridge needing persuading to start against Man Utd at home. Klopp himself has said Sturridge needs to learn to play through the pain barrier, it's extremely unlikely that they are both lying or having a go for the sake of it. I'd agree that he probably needs a specific training schedule similar to Ledley King to enable him to play but the guy is supposed to be a professional athlete. He's been injured for pretty much 18 months now with niggles, muscle strains and so on. He hasn't had one major injury in that time scale like Owen or Fowler had, no broken leg, no ACL, no hamstring tear, its mad frustrating and what Gerrard and Klopp have said about Sturridge in my opinion is 100% accurate.

Perhaps there is a need to give Sturridge a say though do you not think?

Perhaps there is a need to give Sturridge a say though do you not think? If it wasn't true he would have come out and defended himself by now surely. Also what about the times under Klopp where Sturridge has said he is fit to play and Klopp has said no because he hasn't been training properly?
