Liverpool have been heavily linked with both of these players.

first, it was Luis Suarez, the Uruguayan 22 year old Striker/Winger for a figure between 15-20m. He plays for Ajax Amsterdam as a Right Winger. he scored 22 goals in the dutch league, one goal short of the highest goal scorer (the same amount of goals that Kuyt had scored in Feynord before he came to Liverpool).

then, it was Daniel Pranjic, the Croatian 27 year old left winger who plays for Hereneeven. we've been linked with a 8m deal to bring him to Liverpool. he has scored 16 goals this season.

I believe that many players will be sold this summer in order to finance some deals. Dossena, Degen, Babel, Voronin, Lucas are the usual names. we could generate around 20m from these players. Rafa might be tempted to also replace Alonso (18-20m) with Barry (8m) to free up more cash.

what could also happen is that Benayoun could be sold to finance these deals instead of Alonso/Barry swap. Benayoun (29 year old) might be sold for 8-10m. then we will have these players to fill the attacking 3 midfielders:

Gerrard, Kuyt, Riera, Pranjic, Suarez, El Zhar.

sounds good.

Daniel Pranjic is a strong link... sadly I've never heard of him.

Me too. just a couple of Youtube clips where he seems like a skillful player and a set piece specialist. he's not that expensive either.

What about Suarez?

Pranjic is definitely a Rafa style player, very hard working and versatile.

Plays left back for Croatia but Left midfield for his club, also can cover for CM (interestingly, all the positions Barry can play). Heard elsewhere from people in both Holland and Croatia that the deal is done, but not heard anything from this end.

i hope not. spending big money on more unproven players will send us backwards.

Spending big money on a proven player in Robbie Keane last season didn't exactly work out well.

Rafa wouldn't just go out and sign someone without doing his homework and having him watched numerous times first, just because we may not be exactly familiar with a player doesn't mean Rafa isn't.

Simple fact is these things can go either way, some proven players turn out ace (Torres), some don't (Keane). some unproven players turn out ace (Hyypia), some don't (Diouf).

proven players are less risk. keane was a one off and lets be honest rafa didnt really give him a fair go anyway.

most of these players find it too difficult to cope with the new pressure of a club like liverpool. i would prefer to buy players from clubs where they have a similar sort of pressure to deal with. (especially ones that require large tranfer fees)

But surely Torres was less proven than say Darren Bent or Diego Forlan who we were linked to over the same summer.

Every player we have with the possible exceptions of Reina and Arbeloa (who only played about 3 or 4 times for Real i think) is at the biggest club they have ever or most likely will ever play for. If a player is good enough they will make the step up.

If we never took a chance on signing a player from a less-known club we'd have never of seen the likes of Keegan, Rush, Hughes or Hyypia wearing the red shirt!

Torres was captain of Atletico and an established international. The pressure of playing and captaining the lesser madrid team moulded him.

point taken, but i'm not sure rafa is that good at picking up lesser known or unproven players.
