Now don't get me wrong 49 million was a very good deal for us. But Man City were just buying potential, Sterling is far from the finished article.
If Man City were just buying to fulfil the English player quota they could have signed Ibe for a lot less, probably 20million, a lot of fans, pundits, ex players also think Ibe will be a bigger player than Sterling.
He has excelled in pre season, returned early to train with King Kenny, model professional. I believe Man City signed the wrong English young player from us.

I have no doubt that Ibe would be a better player than sterling.
Look at his strike against malaysia. No back lift. Absolute killer technique. Sterling can't do that in a million years.
Some players are just gifted in their techniques and I think Ibe is one of them.

With a neutral hats on, Ibe does look a much more skilful, thinking type of footballer than Sterling.
When he is attacking on the wing he quite often checks back and analyzes the best position rather than running aimlessly at speed at the defender with no real tactic over than to use his speed.
Speed tends to disappear from players as they age as well.
While Sterling has all the ability and skill, I feel he does not have that footballing brain.
With Ibe he has the skill, ability and a footballing brain, the complete package in my opinion.

I agree sterlings game intelligence is not great and I said that many times when he played for us I liken him to steve macmanaman who was another who often did great things then screwed it up with a silly pass that broke evertrhing down City wasted money on him too

The complete package? He has played less than 20 games for Liverpool and hasn't scored in a competitive game yet. Huge potential yes but the complete package, behave.

At first glance I'd say you're right there, but you know, neither of them might ever make to stardom. The path from where they're both at now, to where they need to get to, is strewn with pitfalls, and that pathway is littered with the forlorn hopes of thousands of young and gifted players. I'm not wishing that on either of them, quite the contrary, but it's a tough and hazardous path they travel.

Sterling is a good player, deal with it, City have signed a good player. Ibe looks exciting, but is nothing more than potential as of now. He has a long way to go to reach Sterling's level.
