Just look at Chelsea though, they had a brilliant squad last season, yeah but only like 21 or 22 players actually played for them. We had something like 29 play for us.

Okay so Jones, Gerrard, Johson, Sterling and Manquillo have left with Borini, Lambert and Balotelli likely to follow + maybe 1 or 2 more.
As it stood we NEEDED -
1 goal keeper (back up/competition or first choice)
1 Defensive midfielder
1 Creative midfielder
1 Striker
That's it, that all we NEEDED.
In football, you create your spine first and build around that. Too many new faces at once creates settling problems and the issue of quantity over quality.
Those 3 positions to be quality additions that would improve our first team and a keeper (I'd be happy with competition/back up to Mignolet) and we would have a proper side again with some real quality.
I'm talking making real statement signings and pushing on -
DM - Martinez, Mascherano, Krychowiak, Gonolons, Alonso
Plenty of options
Creative midfielder - Isco, Reus, Firmino, Felipe Anderson, Depay, Jese Rodriguez, Thiago. Depending on who came in would decide whether Coutinho plays in a midfield 3 or front 3.
Again, plenty of options
Striker -
Higuain, Benzema, Lacazette, Bacca
Much harder to find the right striker to be fair.
As it is, we signed a RB when we could have kept Manquillo, a box to box midfielder when we've got Henderson and Can, a young CB I'd never heard of before, a young striker as 3rd choice when Origi was already coming in and we generally play with 1 striker so we can fit in wingers, a striker just below the level that I think we needed and a keeper that probably isn't good enough to challenge Mignolet and be the backup we require.
I do like Milner and starting to think he will be good for us
I really like Gomez and think he'll be a star. Fast becoming a favourite.
I still think Clyne was unnecessary and Manquillo is better defensively, I don't care about my full backs attacking so much though.
I've got my doubts about Benteke matching our players but I'm hopeful.
I didn't think Ings was necessary and just a waste of 8m or whatever he will be but he's looking decent so far.
Still unsure on whether Bogdan was right but he was free and better than Jones I imagine.
Still think we desperately need a DM, plain as day for me, unless Milner can learn to play there but it's not his game and Emre Can isn't ready for that role.
Proper title winning experience would transform this side and it's been another wasted opportunity for me.

Of course we need to replace those players who do not perform, however, buying 7 players every year shows our failed transfer policy or shows that we are in trial and error mode. Chelsea came 3rd behind us last year, they bought 2-3 first team players (net and gross spending less than us) and won the league. Why? Mourinho understood his weaknesses and sorted that out. We bought a lot of players and took half a season to have a working system, says it all. Or it means they had a quality squad already. Rather than needing to build that, they could sign a couple of top players to come straight in. Liverpool had a weak squad, needed to increase the quality in depth. There is vast difference. How come we came second if our squad was as you say so weak? We should have been very close to them if we came 2nd and they 3rd, behind us. You can say we sold Suarez but all the money was available and 40m more to improve. We not only didn't improve but fell by 4 positions, that's bloody lot. The vast difference is that Chelsea spent wisely and we were crap, nobody can deny this, not even you and your stats.

Can i ask, why you would mention lacazette as being a great strike option? he's about 5.6" in height, minus last seasons performance he scored 24 in 106 games, take away the season before that its 9 in 80 games! Higuain' also scores less than benteke and both players in less competitive leagues. To say manquillo is a better option defensively than clyne is just absurd, he left because he wasnt played, he wasnt played because he was fuck1ng sh1te, end of. Also, do you not think liverpool scouts watched origi all last season? That is the reason we signed ings as 3rd choice. I wont even start on the Emre Can not being ready to be defensive midfielder part because if anyone can play DM... Emre Can
