I've mentioned the top point about making too many choices quite a few times before we signed anyone ( I was not the only one). I was shot down. So its nice to see a professional make the same point.

It’s more about a continuation of the moneyball policy, i.e buying lots of youngish players with sell on value, rather than trying to deal with last seasons issues. But Comolli is right it is very disruptive, and mitigates against signing quality players for the key areas that need strengthening.

Why is he so bothered about us, Does he comment about anyone else he has ever worked for?

We've had 7 signings so far, one being Bogdan, so 6 really. Now I doubt BR is going to throw all 6 of them on against Stoke.
Out of the 6 I'd guess 3 of them have a claim to a start. Clyne Milner and Benteke, with Firmino a sub for the first few games. The starters are
all positions that all of us could see needed improvement immediately.
And yeah Lain, what's he bothered about us for? Hoping for a 'told you so' moment

the problem with us is always been we go and buy quantity and not quality. we are more interested in strengthening our squad rather then our 1st team 11. what they dont realise is if we strengthen the fist 11 we will by default strengthen out squad.

lots of top teams sign multiple players per window and make big squad changes. I don't see us as being any different. We're used to FSG haggling for Kono or Dempsey at 11:55pm on the last day of the window... now they're getting their targets in earlier. I for one don't think it's a bad development. All teams sign players who don't work out - look at Di Maria!!!

If they would have brought in 1-3 quality players over the windows as opposed to 6-7 potentials they would have absolutely something to build on. In buying potentials they must accept a higher failure rate. Their policies have absolutely let the club down and the building process never gained ground, in fact, it had our better players starting to lose faith, rightfully so, and moving on. It's simply more than getting your targets in earlier, its getting the right players. That said, I do sense a change in player purchase policy.

Secondly, he mentions quotes of more than 3 can ruin what you've built...but Liverpool at the end of the season were clearly in need of improvements in the squad. If there is little belief in some players, enough that they weren't playing, then not replacing them is surely worse? Better to take a risk on players capable of stepping in, than relying on players you doubt can.

Thirdly, he clearly has defended the work of Spurs, despite a torrid season as well, and suggests they've done well, despite the fact they're selling a number of players that have contributed very well over the last couple of seasons.

Taking all that into account, he has clearly misjudged the difference between improving 3 men in the team, and more than that in the squad. Ferguson wouldn't sign more than 3 new starters every year. This year, we've signed Benteke, Clyne, Milner and Firmino for the first eleven. A problem of the clubs own making in having to sign Benteke (having not replaced Suarez last year), the other players are the three to improve the main team...

He clearly underthinks on most things and just has a go. A bit of clarity in his head would go a long way to realising the only point he has made is that we're signing a lot of players for the squad which CAN disrupt the team. If the team wasn't working under the proposed formation at the end of last year, then you have to change things.

Of course we need to replace those players who do not perform, however, buying 7 players every year shows our failed transfer policy or shows that we are in trial and error mode. Chelsea came 3rd behind us last year, they bought 2-3 first team players (net and gross spending less than us) and won the league. Why? Mourinho understood his weaknesses and sorted that out. We bought a lot of players and took half a season to have a working system, says it all.

Any chance of running that past us all again, preferably in sentences that make sense.

Or it means they had a quality squad already. Rather than needing to build that, they could sign a couple of top players to come straight in.

Liverpool had a weak squad, needed to increase the quality in depth. There is vast difference.
