I did wonder why the stadium was so empty. Perhaps these quotes explain it
“Two years ago we knew Liverpool were coming since February so everyone had a lot of time to plan their trip, not only from other parts of Thailand but from other parts of Asia. This time it was quite rushed."
“But what made it difficult for a lot of fans was playing it in midweek.
“Two years ago many fans came from other provinces to watch as the game was on a Sunday.
“With this one being on a Tuesday people would have had to take two days off work and that’s very difficult to manage here.
Poor organization and promoting by the sounds of it. There weren't really any big names there though so no wonder nobody came.
There cannot be any denial that the brand value is going down, I am convinced about it as the percentage of new younger generation fans is declining in my region at least. When I grew up, and for about 25 years, there were more new LFC fans than any other team, United was close mainly because of their history and their good performances in the FA cups which was the live game on tv then. For the last 15 years, it has been a lot United new fans, then Arsenal and now I can see Chelsea. It's probably not the same in England as I suppose in London you would usually go for a London team, if you are from Birmingham your first team will be Villa or WBA etc. Not winning trophies and not having the best players will shoot the brand. United has the biggest fan base and therfore can get the best sponsorship deals because of their recent success.
