There is a lot wrong with your logic. First a good player will shine in any position saying they are out of position is a poor excuse. Second if we are playing markovic out of position there is a reason for that he is probably not impressing in that position in training and rodgers is trying to make use of him another way. And third if we have no need for him in his natural position then you wonder why on earth we bought him. [/

Spot on Stan, he has shown very little.

Why does it seem to be only Liverpool players that need at lest a full season to settle and must be played in THEIR best position to do well.

He is yet another example of our failed scattergun transfer policy. We seem to put a bargain price before real quality.

So you've made an assumption based on absolutely nothing that we haven't seen him play? You could be, and unsurprisingly are with such a stupid assumption, absolutely wrong. I have seen him play multiple times and said as much when we bought him (though I don't expect you to know that you shouldn't make such stupid assumptions about what others have seen). I don't think he's a star player AT ALL. He's a good player and will do well more likely in another league. 20 million was too much for him and no one else was seriously looking at him, this at a time where had 120 million and champions league football.

Had we bought him now (i.e. no champs football seemingly in decline manager on death row etc) for say 15 mill I'd say it was an interesting signing and decent. At the time it was stupid and overpriced, as it proved to be.

Right, so why don't united play De Gea as a striker, or why don't Barcelona play Pique as a striker? Why is Messi not played as a central defender... and you talking to me about logic.

No point arguing, let's wait and see when Brenda is gone and a decent manager comes in who doesn't play half the team out of position...

We've already waited a season, he has been average at best.

He most certainly isn't a £20m player.

If he was anywhere near as good as you are suggesting he would have started every game last season.

We spent over £80m on four very average players last season and not one of them had a decent season.

I agree with you he has natural talent but manys the player who has come to the prem with natural talent and failed it's the hardest league in the world
Its unfair to judge Marko when he'd been played out of position all the time.

It's amazing that some think a decent player would shine in any position! How would Suarez do at cb? How would De Gea do as a striker? Be sensible!

Markovic hasn't shown much if anything to suggest he's worth the money we paid. But he's been played out of position so how can we judge how good he really is?

Exactly, and therein lies the fallacy at the heart of the FSG moneyball philosophy in PL football. Far too many promising young players fail to make the expected step up in the red hot cauldron that is PL football. FSG have probably come to realise this and are trying to overcome it by signing large numbers of prospects in a scattergun type approach, but it hasn’t worked so far, in fact we’ve regressed under this policy.
This season they’re probably giving it one final shot by slightly increasing the profile and cost of player being recruited, which in itself is an admission of policy failure. However the question is will players of the calibre of Firmino, Cline and benteke, if he signs, be enough of a departure from their original targets, at around 10 12m a couple of seasons ago, be sufficient? I doubt it, as the comparative quality of your squad, versus the quality of your opposition is the determining factor in any season’s outcome. Any comparative analysis of our current squad quality, including our new signings, against that of our top competitor’s will show a significant quality deficit. On the basis of that analysis and barring something of a miracle, and depending on how Spurs strengthens or perhaps weakens this transfer window the best we can expect is to finish either 5th or 6th.
