For weeks, it was being strongly suggested that Firmino was coming to the prem with a price tag of about £18-£19m. I go away on holiday and when I return, he has signed for us with a price of £29m!!!! Have we 'attracted' him by massively overpaying? We may not have been his first choice but if we gazumped Utd by £10m (for example), then Hoffenheim would obviously prefer to do business with us unless Utd upped their offer, which they clearly weren't prepared to do.
I've watched him 4 or 5 times now and he looked 'ok', nothing special. I've checked out his youtube clips and they don't even make him look particularly good, which is a bit alarming. My gut instinct is that we have another markovic on our hands. i.e., we've panicked because someone else was interested and paid well over the odds in the process. I hope I'm wrong but the sudden change in price cannot be easily ignored..... I pray to God we have another Markovic on our hands because the kid is talented as hell, just needs to play in his preffered position continously.

I also think we overpaid and said so when we signed him. Addons or not, it will likely reach 29m. Way too much for his kind of quality.

Typical thread for this forum. If we had offered under 20 and stuck to it we wouldn't have got Firmino, and there would be even more threads about how we lack ambition, calling for everyone to be sacked. For once we splash out on a player that Sixties rightly said were on a lot of people's wish lists in previous windows, and now it's a curious transfer? Jesus..what the F has changed?! As someone else pointed out, the fee will onyl be close to 30m if he succeeds, and if that's the case then it's money well spent. If he doesn't light up the league then he's another 20m player which is the average for that-little-bit-more-than-raw-potential, popular/ sought after South American.
Markovic has hardly had a chance in a fully attacking role yet, that's why we haven't seen anywhere near the best of him, that's why he looks like a 'punt'.

Its about balance. I would have been happy seeing that $30m spent on higuain or another quality forward (not benteke).
