For weeks, it was being strongly suggested that Firmino was coming to the prem with a price tag of about £18-£19m. I go away on holiday and when I return, he has signed for us with a price of £29m!!!! Have we 'attracted' him by massively overpaying? We may not have been his first choice but if we gazumped Utd by £10m (for example), then Hoffenheim would obviously prefer to do business with us unless Utd upped their offer, which they clearly weren't prepared to do.
I've watched him 4 or 5 times now and he looked 'ok', nothing special. I've checked out his youtube clips and they don't even make him look particularly good, which is a bit alarming. My gut instinct is that we have another markovic on our hands. i.e., we've panicked because someone else was interested and paid well over the odds in the process. I hope I'm wrong but the sudden change in price cannot be easily ignored.....

Also you should not judge a player from watching clips on youtube

Very similar impression with what I've seen. Let's hope we are both proven wrong.
Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

My point about youtube is that anyone can look good when cherrypicking their best moments. The fact that his best moments make him look ordinary raises an eyebrow; that's all.

We'll just have to wait and see. But i have a funny feeling he is being overrated by our support

Is the fee not £22m plus add ons? For me we've done what we haven't for ages or ever and what most moan about us not doing and that's pay good money and out bid others for a player we wanted. Look at who we could've bought in the past had we done it before.

Have to say I wasn’t impressed by his last game in the Copa America, but I’m with holding judgement until he’s with us a while. You can usually tell if a player has it or not on their first few games, so we shall see. Hope he hits the ground running and makes a big difference to us, we need it, and then some! However I’m more worried by our striking deficit and our defensive deficit, both of which cost us last season. I’d like to see a top central defender and a top goalkeeper coming in, and also a box to box defensive mid. Those seem to me to be the priority areas.

Roughly £100M worth of wishes in those three, unless we look in the bargain bin.
To be honest, a top striker (not Benteke, for me) plus a quality mid, to replace SG, would be my ideals.
Pogba plus Lacazette would be enough to keep me happy.
I guess Henderson and Ings are what we will, realistically, have to live with.

Pogba and Lacazette! That's nearly £100m there too and they'll both have offers from better than us.

£29 million is reportedly the price including add-ons. So you would presume he would have to be successful if Liverpool are to pay that fee.
£20 odd million isn't going to get you an elite player straight away. He's looks a very good player and hopefully he can develop to become even better.
