What I've been saying on here for a while. It is not that Brendan can't attract established big name players. Our club doesn't buy a lot of big name players because most of them don't represent long-term, sustainable value.

There's also a difference between a player's quality and their reputation. A point that often gets forgotten on this forum.

Can you name 1 (one) big name player that we have signed under Rodgers? Someone that was in demand but who chose us over others and who we were prepared to pay top price/wages for because of their quality. I'm not asking for a lot... just 1.

At the other end, how many of the unknown players we've signed have turned out to represent 'long term, sustainable value' ? The same could be asked of the players that fall somewhere in between big name and unknown, players such as Borini, Allen, Lambert.

Firmimo is probably the closest to a big name player that we bought under Rodgers. But can you name a big name player that we have ever bought? We don't really seem to buy them

They looking at it from a strategic point, buy potential develop and sell. If used right it might set us up as a feeder club for a couple of years. Bring in big money if players excel and sold for huge profit plus sustain the business to some extent. If done wrong it can set us back decades.

More pre-season BS after a complete failure last. Nothing new when the fans (which they monitor closely) have been slating the owners and management.

LFC have a long successful history of buying and developing players. You're right; Big name signings have never been our thing. The last big fee we paid for a much sought after player was Stan Collymore.
We 'could' buy top well known players but we seem to prefer spending big money on unproven players. It makes no sense from a footballing point of view.

I wonder what value Borini, Aspas and Balotelli have brought, that's 35m of transfer money.

Borini would have made us about £4m had he fukked off last year but that's about it! Spend the £35m on one top notch player and who knows?
