A lot of noise about Illarmendi as the next big target. Can't say I know anything about him, but he seems a pretty highly rated DM. Illaremendi isn't very good, he's had chances under Ancelotti; he was terrible, so much so that he was benched. It's now up to Rafa to deal with him, but Rafa bringing back Casameiro has surely ended his chances. Sociedad want to take him back.

He was extremely good for Real Sociedad, he isn't the first and won't be the last to struggle to step up at Real Madrid, world class names and players like Kaka also struggled to make the grade their. And being benched due to having Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and the season before Xabi Alonso in front of him doesn't make him a bad player.

Can would be a good choice, I think. Even if he likes to get forward, Henderson and Milner are pretty selfless and track back.
We just need a good striker.

For a DM, being tactically aware and keeping the team ticking progressively are the most important attribute. Being fast, strong and aggressive and a good distributor in the mould of Matic or Makelele are bonuses.
Just look at Didi and Alonso.

What do they call the position now? Quarterback ffs. I saw a article somewhere that BR doesn't like playing DM's but you could say that he tried to make Gerrard one and that to some extent Allen is one as well. The latter not being the best or of quality we need to challenge. Numerous names being thrown around. It seems we are losing out on Kovacic because Barcelona is in the frame.
What about Gündogan or Bender from Dortmund?
