1. FSG Have shown that they will invest in the squad. Juventus have spent nowhere as much as Liverpool in recent times. But of course greedy fans demand more investment otherwise they will threaten to boycott attending matches and buying LFC merchandise etc. Absolutely pathetic. No one is bothered, all it affects is you (and you're not going to get another 1000 fans copying you just because you do it).

2. Success can be earned not just bought. Look at Juventus and Dortmund. They’ve built a team though shrewd signings and stability. At Liverpool we can't do that because we've got fans who demand the teams and manager needs changing every disappointing season. And before you say our recruitment has been terrible, no one has given these young and/or foreign players a chance to settle (that includes Lovren and Lallana). Judge them over the duration of their contracts not 1 year for goodness sake. I have never known so many wannabe City or Chelsea fans on this forum. It smacks of desperation. I don't see Juventus or Dortmund buying a load of extravagant names.

3. We are never going to beat Chelsea and City at their game (not while FSG are in charge). So give up hoping we spend, spend, spend on extravagant names (that included the manager) or support a different team. There is more than one way to be successful. Stop pretending we are something we are not. Liverpool have many times brought in less established players and made them into top players.

4. FSG are right to keep the wage bill as low as possible. Dortmund and Juventus have a lower wage bill than Liverpool. I would rather be like Liverpool than QPR. Players should earn their contracts and not just given them to fend off interest from other teams.

5. FSG can’t win. We spend big and everybody says we overpaid. Expectations are so high we don’t give players a chance. We spend little and everybody slates them for lacking ambition regardless of how good the players brought in are. Judge the signings on the pitch over the course of seasons not single matches and certainly not on their transfer fee.

6. Juventus and Dortmund have shown success can be earned without massive amounts of money.

Stop looking for the quick fix. Stop acting like Liverpool should be at the top of the league. Stop acting like 6th place is terrible. We have been finishing regularly outside the top 4 long before Rodgers was appointed or FSG were in charge. FSG do try to minimise costs. And that’s like 99% of teams. There are very few teams like City or Chelsea. One of the reasons why Barca and Real can spend so much is because their TV revenue isn’t split evenly like in the premier league. Nothing to do with ambition.

If you’ve made it this far well done. This is my opinion it doesn’t mean I’m right and I understand different fans will have different opinions.

Problem is not how much we spend but how we spend and we need a manager who knows how to spend and has enough clout to convince good players to come to us. By the way, if most fans are unhappy (as they are) there won't be the need for anybody to follow regarding buying merchandise, everybody will just do it. If you don't like posters here, nobody is forcing you to come here...Brodge.

Good points from both parties and I was hoping to see a new manager too after everything. It didn't happen, alright move on but FSG are showing that they are changing things which is a very good sign. It seems like they believe in Brendan to me but don't believe he's being give the right components behind him to be successful.
Now, they are putting all accountability in his hands and if it works, brilliant, we haven't gone and wasted 10m on a new manager + their wages that may or may not have made the top 4 and be in the same position again.
If it doesn't work then Brendan will go, a new manager will come in immediately and there won't be any uncertainty surrounding the club in the off season which can only be a good thing.

Some decent links are coming out regarding players so let's not moan before the window even opens.

RS,

Comparisons to other league's expenditure is apples and oranges. The EPL is the world's milk cow and what we are expected to pay and would be quoted for a player would be double a team in most other leagues be it the transfer or the salary expectations of players.

Even if your arguments could be true (more of a modern day Clough story) you need an extremely talented man at the helm to go out and find players of extreme value.

Rogers has had 3 years (you talk like he has been in the job a number of months) and his transfers and eye for a player have been the worst in living memory. That alone strikes him out of any possible chance of being successful in the model you talk of.

And let's be clear no-one I know of here is bashing Rodgers for the sake of it. Nothing to most of us shows of turning this around, nothing.

Come game 1 though in August if he is still manager I will be behind him 100%.

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

Fsg net spend is 33m in 3yrs and they have also slashed the wage bill and made every contract renewal a saga.

Lovern has been terrible and should be judged. He is not that young and a professional player at a club like liverpool will always be judged to high standards -rightly so. Same goes for lalanna and markovic .

FSG & Rodgers brought Mario Ballotelli to the club thus severely lowering our standing in the game. That's a fallen giant signing like AC milan or someone crap like that. Last summer was such a great chance to cement ourselves on a perch but FSG and Rodgers nosedived off it. Its been a disaster no matter how u want to whitewash it. We were there, now we have an even bigger mountain to climb - no suarez and no real intent (i.e world class signings) .

Opinions like yours are more than welcomed by FSG - managing expectations..or now managing failure.

Billionaire John W Henry, for whom coming to UK via plane is the equivalent of one of catching a train from Liverpool to Manchester NEVER attains any matches.

Please explain how this makes FSG good owners?

We are money making machine and will continue to make money even if we are mediocre, hence BR is safe.

Redforchampions - No I don't have a problem with the posters just don't share their opinion at times. Yes Rodgers maybe doesn't have the same appeal to top players as say a Mourinho. But he's young and his reputation can develop over times as he improves.

evans09 - fair points.

Top4 - Yes comparing clubs from different leagues may be misleading. Fees are often inflated but that is usually when players transfer between premier league teams or clubs pay a premium for English talent. I dare say there could be cheaper alternative across Europe (look at Coutinho). His recruitment has been poor so far (that may change when players settle and develop), but he has shown with Suarez and Sturridge once he has got top players he manages them well.

EMP - It was always going to be difficult to replicate the form we showed when we finished 2nd. But we went from 7th to 2nd so 6th to 4th next season is realistic. Buzz words like 'managing failure' just put a negative emphasis on something that is really not. It is about being realistic. We've never won the premier league title so expectations we should be competing with City and Chelsea for it are unrealistic. Nothing to do with FSG.

Welsh_Wizard - He might be watching it on tv instead.

U think FSG are happy to be realistic? 2nd and 120mspent and now out of the elite in a blink of an eye. Its been a massive failure, which is why the chopping and changing now. Realism is for midtables club, we aspire to be more. And anyway i don't think its unrealistic to expect to compete when u finish 2nd and spend 120m.

What has that got to do with anything?

Yes he has money. But money cannot compensate for time difference, jet lag, 8-10 hour flight etc. he is an old man. Flying from Boston to Liverpool isn't the same as a 40min train journey.

He's saved us from two Cowboys and he's invested. We are making progress and he is backing the manager. The manager maybe the wrong choice. But he was the right choice last season.
