He said in an interview in the past when we failed to score that they are in need of in the final third to ball in the net. He's also said he needs a player to take the weight of Sturridge.
We should have the funds, and we definitely should if we/when we sell some dead wood.
Top players will sign for Liverpool given the history and size of the club, and Rodgers is a bright young manager. Without champions league though it will be difficult and our choices will be reduced.
Borini etc are not good enough. Top teams have several players who can compete for a position. It is not healthy to have one striker much better than the rest and the others only getting a look in when the other is injured. They should be competing against each other to push each other on. The purpose of them is to compete for places which they are not doing - they are simply not good enough. And they're not good enough for backup either hence why we have often played Sterling or Lallana up front or in a false 9.
Rodgers has spent an embarrassing amount of money on final third players and hasn't bought someone worthy of a spot since Coutinho/Sturridge. So it's no one's fault but his if he's in need of someone in the final third.
I agree we should have the funds, let's hope someone else is spending them this time.
Top players categorically do not give a sh!t about our hsitory it's already well documented and proven we have no pull on top players as a club, couple that with a manager who can't pick a player, plays them out of position, and failed miserably last year. Very little pull indeed.
