Quite a few players floating about the premier league right now that are very good, if not great, players for teams outside the top 4 spots.
Just wondering who you think (based on this season) might be able to make the step up to a top club and improve them.

Sadio Mane - Scored 31 goals in 63 appearances for Red Bull Salzburg and has come into the premier league this season and been immense for Southampton. Definitely one of the reasons that they are where they are and for me, their best player this season.
They had a huge drop in form when this lad was over with the African cup. Extremely quick, good dribbler, can finish and gets in good positions, decent vision and a proper fighter. Have been impressed since seeing him against Chelsea early on this season.

Harry Kane - Obvious one here. He's been incredible for Spurs this season, just signed a new, well deserved deal and I personally think he will be the real deal, not some one season wonder that a lot think he will. Just watch him vs Chelsea this season and you'll see how good this kid is.

Christian Eriksen - He and Kane are the only reason that Spurs are where they are this season. How many times has he bailed them out in the last ten minutes. To think of what they paid for him. Spurs should really build a squad around there two if they want to challenge.

Yannick Bolasie - He's a weird one. Think he'd be best served as a striker honestly. Defenders never know what he'll do next because half the time I doubt he knows what he's doing next. I don't know if he could set up in a passing system or a well drilled machine as it seems Pardew has just given him freedom to express at Palace and it's obviously working in his favour. A risk that could be a decent gamble if someone is willing to punt on it.

Gylfie Sigurdson - A lot of people say Bony was the reason the Swans were doing so well. Clearly not the case now then. Gomis has proven to be a decent addition for the Swans but the side definitely revolves around this lad. Proper heartbeat to the side and their most creative spark. Second in assists only behind Fabregas. Never given a proper chance at Spurs in his natural role just behind a striker and he's definitely a quality player.

Jefferson Montero - Unsure about this lad. Seems to have moved around a lot and until recently hasn't actually started that many games for the Swans but whenever I see him there's something in his game I like. Not much of a goal scorer but he's a quick, tricky little winger that definitely adds a dimension to their game.

Jonjo Shelvey - Still don't think we should have let this lad go. I love a bit of desire and aggression in the midfield and this kid wears his heart in his boots. He can change any game, by doing something ridiculous and letting the other team in or scoring a cracker from 30yards. He's found a bit of consistency for Swansea this season though and is turning into a decent young player that could give much needed aggression and drive to a team like City or Arsenal for instance.

Ki - Very tidy lad who seems to be a decent goal scorer. Very rarely loses the ball and you often don't notice he's there til he pops up and puts the ball in the net. Very decent link between midfield and attack and does his defensive duties well.

Charlie Austin - Better than Ings in my view although I still don't want him. Anyone that scores one in two for a team getting relegated has to be worth something more than championship football. I'll be amazed if he's not in the premier league next season.

Saido Berahino - Not at all consistent but manages to score some decent goals. He's quick and aggressive, reminds me of Sturridge/Owen in how he plays. Goals have dried up a bit since Pulis came in and at times you can see why with how Isolated his is with Tony's defensive approach. Very good striker for a team that likes to play in behind a defensive line and use pace to break through. Definitely wouldn't mind him here.

Christian Benteke - The lad is a good player and a decent goal scorer, no doubt about it. Would be very good for Chelsea and provide a similar impact to what Costa has this season. Would likely be a lot better suited than Remy has been. I just don't think he'd be right for how we play or how we "aim" to play.

Ryan Bertrand - I was saying last season that I actually hoped we brought this guy in for 6 million or whatever from Chelsea and concentrated on the spine rather than the rumours of 20 million for Moreno (I like Moreno and 12 was a good price but we needed a better spine). I always thought he was decent when he got the Chance for Chelsea and this season he's been awesome for Southampton. Worth would be in excess of 15 million now and rightly so. Should be backup LB for England after Baines right now. Much much better than Luke Shaw.

Nathaniel Clyne - Looks like he's going to United and no doubt why. He's proved for a few seasons now that he's a very good player and this season has been no exception.

Kieran Trippier - I like this lad. Shows a lot of fight and desire and loves getting down that line and putting very decent balls into the box. Fairly solid defensively, decent with the ball at his feet, doesn't seem to rush and pretty quick. Would be a decent squad player and would likely give a lot of fight to cement a place in a top side.

Diafra Sakho - Quick, strong, good in the air, very good movement and scores important goals. Probably the most important (not best) player for West Ham this season. Got him for next to nothing and he's been their best striker up against one that cost 17m (hah).

Aaron Cresswell - Was West Ham's best player this season. A couple of lapses in concentration that proved costly but he's young and will learn. Offers a lot to the side going forward and is generally very sound defensively. Pretty sure I heard he won the award for Hammers player of the season too.

They are the ones I can think of right now. Can you think of any more or disagree with the ones I've listed?

Fair enough, don't rate Danny Ings high enough to make that step up.

This is the problem, decent players at lower Premiership clubs very rarely make the step up! How many examples do we need of this yet we stick to the same tried and failed method, Carroll, Adam, Downing, Lallana, Lovren, Lambert and Allen to name a few.

We need a proper scout system the reason were getting stung on transfers is because were buying from within the premier league. We used to be the team bringing in the likes of alonso, torres, mascherano all before they were proven world class players granted not all transfers were a success but id rather that then pay 15 million for joe allen.

What's depressing is I can not F ucking believe we've been brainwashed into even considering these players wtf!

Some of those players are very good and would be considerably better than what we have.

Yeah, fair call but not everyone in the premier league has a lack of quality and is overpriced. There are some decent players in this league. If you sign the wrong type of player for the way you play then you'll never get it right wherever they may come from.

I have no hesitation in saying Mane is a better player than Sterling has ever been and I think he has a higher ceiling based on what I've seen from both of them.
Thinking there is no decent, affordable talent in the premier league is naivety.

Mascherano, Tevez, Berbatov, Rooney, Arteta, Lampard, Joe Cole, Glen Johnson, Alan Shearer etc.
All of those players and more that have provided at top level clubs were once at the mid-table, lower level clubs of this league. Some players CAN make the step up and most above I think would.
