Apparently, top players still regard Liverpool as an elite force in world football.

“Liverpool will always be an attractive offer for players, whether we are in the Champions League or not. People think you cannot attract players if you are not in the Champions League, but Liverpool will always be a huge attraction.

“That’s not just because of the history of the club, but also because of what we are trying to do here. Players will look at us and see a team and squad evolving, and they will want to be a part of that.”

“It’s natural that every player, coach and manager would love to work in the Champions League. There are players here who spent a long time not being in the Champions League.

“We were in it this year, we loved the competition, and we want to be there consistently over a number of years. Most players, of course, want to play at that level, but they also want to know their game is improving and they will get the opportunity to play football.

“It boils down to that, as well as the other things."

“But this is one of the greatest clubs in the world and this club will always be an attraction for a player.”

“We took the title down to the very last game of last season and our objective this time has been to challenge for trophies. We are now in our second semi-final of the season, and I think that shows we are making progress.

“All the players here believe there is progress being made, but we don’t have many players with great experience, so sometimes winning things takes a wee bit longer.

“Sometimes you have to go through bad times or lose important games in order become a winner.”

Even with Champions League we signed 120 million pounds worth of nearly entirely mediocre players. I imagine we will fare even worse without it.

See nothing wrong with what he has said. Some of you will slate Rodgers regardless of what he says.

The squad is evolving my arse. Its always one step forward 3 steps back. Everytime we sign a top quality player madrid or barca pay up and sign him because this club has no fking balls so they fall for the money all the time. Sterling and Coutinho will be gone in the summer aswell. Pathetic small club mentality.

Begining to agree with this.

We were always a step behind The Utds & Chelseas, but the mess we're in at the moment is next level. Sad state of affairs.

But it's not peanuts is it?

For example what other club would pay £55k a week to Borini? Balotelli on £80k a week and another £50k a week for Lambert.

That is close on £10m per year on wages alone without their transfer fees and none of them guaranteed a place on the bench. And don't even get me started on Lovren and Lallana.

Truth is for a certain calibre of player we pay over the odds for the fee and way over the top on wages.

These players that we beat other clubs to. Who else would have paid them that money or shelled out that in fees. Everton? Newcastle? Doubt it. Spurs? Maybe.

On a less tongue in cheek note, do you agree or accept everything that has been quoted in the opening post?

esso I agree with ye wrt fees paid but player's even mediocre ones receive mad money these days and to an extent I agree with fsg policy of incentives. But when a player is doing his stuff and in demand ye gotta pay up.
Wages equals league places mostly...iim not saying pay sshit players good wages but if ye wanna win things youve got to pay up
