I never said he was. I was comparing their frustrating levels of inconsistency.

I think Silva is much more of a complete and consistent player than Coutinho. He provides so many assists.

Coutinho is 22....David Silva is 29, what would you expect?

Coutinho has a lot to learn, he has time on his side like you say but he must improve his consistency to be considered top drawer in my opinion.

In actual fact, he doesn't - it's popular misconception. He has 3 assists this season (Coutinho has 4), 9 last season, 8 the season before...not overly impressive if you ask me.

Sterling gets more goals and assists than Silva so maybe he is worth a bit more than we think...?

Silva also has 11 goals this season where as Coutinho has 4.

You make a valid point on the assists misconception, he just comes across as that type of player and often goes unnoticed for how many goals he gets.

Silva creates assists of assists, if you know what I mean. His clever play often goes unnoticed. He is always on the move and makes good runs which opens up the play, as well as being an exceptional passer of the ball. Coutinho is a different type of player if you ask me, but has potential to be just as good.

Come on, that's scraping the barrel a bit! What about the man that passes to the man who passes to Silva who passes it to the man who assists the goalscorer? Why can't he get some recognition too?

Mine is Coutinho by the way.
If the criteria for a player to be world class is consistently high class performances week after week then we don’t have any player that currently looks like they will develop into that player.
You mention Coutinho who has flashes of creative brilliance, but is light and easily muscled out of the game and is a mite inconsistent. I do accept that of them all he would be the one most likely, but I wouldn’t bet my house on it.
In the good years we used to have top players in every position, including super subs but not now, and it's an indication of how far we’ve fallen, when the best we can do is point to one lightweight, inconsistent youngster, as our one and only (but unlikely) potential world class player! Are we in a bad place here or what?

Comparing us today with what we'd been is always going to be painful.

We are so lucky to have Sterling & Coutinho instead of Silva, especially Sterling as he is proper world class. I'd be furious if we swapped Sterling for Silva crazy
