Jovanvic, i dont know what rafa see in him, i dont know what game plan the coach fit this jovanovic in.

But im sure other great coaches like Fergie, Wenger, Ancelotti, Mancini, coyle, allardyce all know who Kevin Doyle is, so why arent these great coaches rushing to buy doyle?????? why?

Doyle is player that belongs in a relegation fighting club. West Brom, Derby. Not LFC

Most Most Lfc fans never knew much of arbeloa, agger, skrtel, reina, alonso.

He cost 20 million, how many times do we need to point out that Rafa has not spent 20million upfront for aquilani? Its over a period of 5 years.

Aquilani was labelled the next Totti, he was being groomed for the totti role at Roma. That is the repuation he brought with him. Every single player has a reputation and we buy players based on their reputation/skill ability etc. Anelka is known as le sulk. Bellamy rotten repuation etc.

Coming back to why he doesnt play, i dont know, i really am not privy to the information as to why he is benched, why he is not starting etc.

Rafa has come out last week and admitted WE MADE A MISTAKE.

That should settle this argument about aqulani, because Rafa does not buy a player without a medical, so our doctors made a assesment and deduced we could have aquilani ready by october, Rafa went on and bought the player. It was wrong.

other factors i think we can consider, do we know how severe his injury is? Do we know the extent of his recovery? Do we know and can we say for sure that aquilani can start every game or play two games in a week?

There are many things that go on behind teh scenes that we will never know. I doubt Rafa sticks the scan of aquilani injury on his office wall and reads it.

I just feel we are not a small Rushden and diamonds club, we a big club, trust those in charge. (Except hICKS AND gILLET)

The coach has said WE MADE A MISTAKE AND WE CANNOT MANAGE!

Could it be that rafa is giving mixed signals about aquilani to the media in order to mislead our opponents, keep them guessing? Cos aquilani brings a whole new game plan to the club compared to lucas.

joe this is bollox...20 million is the price put on him and we agreed to that...either we paid upfront or in 100 years is not our baby,.,,,,

the money could have been wasted for a player who was fit in Rafa's eyes and Rafa having balls to stand for his buys and throw him in action

HE WAS TO REPLACE ALONSO who had a driving role in the spine of the team..ever realized that?

he wanted to replace alonso with barry to get a quality english player in before the quota rule for english players was in place.

The barry deal went sour for money reasons, that resulted in a break in trust between rafa and alonso, alonso chose madrid, rafa tried to persude him to stay, it was too late cos rafa had already tried to dump him, so there was no trust left, relationship was broken.

What you fail to see is im not condoning the fact he spent 20 million, infact if you ask me, almost every club takes losses and knock downs for players, tell me for sure that united will rcoup all the money they spent on berbatov? No, it was a gamble, it failed.

The coach has acknowledged WE MADE A MISTAKE, he is not trying to say he was right in buying aquilani, he says WE MADE A MISTAKE!

ALBERTO AQUILANI - The truth about his transfer fee. How much will he REALLY cost?

There seems to be a lot of confusion over how much Liverpool paid/will eventually pay Roma for the services of Alberto Aquilani. Figures such as £20m, £17m and £5m (!) have been bandied about, but the truth is the total outlay could (potentially) turn out to be much more.

On the 8th August 2009, Roma released official details of Aquilani's transfer fee. The fee is broken down as follows:

Four cash installments:

* €5m upfront
* €3m by 4th January 2010
* €7m by June 30th 2010
* €5m by June 30th 2011.

Base transfer fee = €20m/£18m

Further Add ons include:

* €300k for every year Liverpool qualify for the CL from 2010/11 to 2014/15.

* €250k every time the player reaches 35 appearancs; 70 appearances; 105 appeances and then 140 appearances.

* €1m the first time Liverpool either wins the Premier League or Champions League by 30 June 2014.

* 5% of any future transfer fee paid to Roma.

ANALYSIS (all figures converted to pounds using today's conversion rate)

* If Liverpool qualify for the Cl every year from 2010 to 2015, a further £1.3m will become payable. How likely is it this will happen? Liverpool have featured in the CL in 8 of the last 9 seasons. There is no reason to think this will not continue.

POTENTIAL EXTRA COST: £1.3m (Based on CL qualification every year)

* If Aquilani reaches 140 appearances, a further £900k will become payable. Is this possible? For Aquilani to achieve that figure, he would need to make a measly 28 appearances each season for 5 years. This is clearly achievable.

POTENTIAL EXTRA COST: £900k

* If Liverpool win the league or CL by June 2014, a further £900k per trophy will become payable. Is it possible that Liverpool might win the league and CL in the next 5 years? Absolutely.

POTENTIAL EXTRA COST: £1.8m

* 5% of any future transfer fee to be paid to Roma. As an example: If Aquilani stays for the full 5 years of his contract he will be 30 years old. If he then leaves, it is unlikely that Liverpool will recoup the initial outlay (due to his age). So - if we conservatively estimate that Liverpool receive half the original price, that would net the club £9m.

POTENTIAL EXTRA COST: £450k (5% of 9m)

* Using the fact that only €5m has been paid so far as some kind of excuse/way to manipulate net spend is not fair or accurate. The total amount of the base fee will still have to be paid in less than 2 years!

CONCLUSION

The following is definite:

* Liverpool will pay £18m for Aquilani.

The following is highly probable:

* £2.2m will become payable as a result CL qualification/appearance levels

* £450k (or whetever fee we get for him) will become payable when Aquilani is sold. (This figure is just for the sake of debate - I'm not saying this WILL happen!)

The following is less probable but still possible:

* £1.8m will become payable as a result of winning the league/CL

POTENTIAL TOTAL COST OF TRANSFER - £22.45m

For the purposes of illustration, I have conservatively estimated Aquilani's eventual sale fee. It could easily go the other way - a club could come in with an Alonso-size offer, in which case Liverpool would have to pay even more to Roma.

So - almost £22.5m (potentially) for Aquilani, a player who 2.5 months into the season has not yet made his debut in the league or Champions League. And this is not taking into account any signing-on fee. Phillipp Degen received a £2m SO fee, so Aquilani's could be equally significant.

Given Aquilani's injury history, who got the better deal here - Liverpool or Roma?

If Aquilani turns out to be a superstar then the eventual total outlay will, of course, be worth it. If, however, the Italian turns out to be another flop, then we're looking at a large amount of wasted money.

From what we've seen of Aquilani so far, he looks calm, composed and comfortable on the ball - just what we need right now! I personally have no doubt that, if he stays fit, Aquilani will become an important player for Liverpool.

Wasn't aware of the breakdown Injun. Interesting stuff. Might explain why we're not challenging for league of champions league. Sure the Yanks are sticking their noses in and trying to save some money!
As for Aqua, I do believe he's got much more to give us but wasn't fit or ready this season. Big game from him thursday will help?!

I think it will be fair to start judging after next season. He's had an injury for most of the season at a new club in a new country. Surely by not taking into account that he's needs time to adapt to everything we're judging him too soon!?

I think he has the potential to be great for us. of course that would dpend on how he settles in and if he gets game time and stays injury free.

You don't get Totti saying how great a player you are if you're complete sh1te!

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has hinted that he may be happy to keep Alberto Aquilani in the attacking free midfield role which saw the Italian make three assists in Sunday’s 4-0 victory at Burnley.

Aquilani played a more attacking game, pushed up behind Dirk Kuyt, who was substituted early in the second half.

Benitez said, “It is an option. He can play in both positions.

“In the first year, especially because he has been injured for a long time, to manage him and find the right position for him was not easy because the Premier League is very strong and physical.

“But in this position he has freedom and with Gerrard behind him they can pass to each other.

“Aquilani can pass the ball and when the game is open like in the second half he can move and give good assists.”
